Rather excited about getting this. Test drove it today and it is rather amazing. Some rave reviews about this particular model too, namely the only problem is owners having to decide a car to top it when they eventually 'move on'...

It's apparently a fairly rare version too, so for extra kudos, I can't complain :)

Hopefully doesn't give me the same grief as the Vectra and Rover have (Vectra had a coolant/pump issue, several hundred quid to fix, Rover clutch completely failed, at LEAST £800 to fix).

Always wanted a Ford also, just never been within my price range at the time.

What model is it then? Never had a brand new car before but do have a Ford Focus C-Max at the moment and it's the best car I've owned, no hassles! Touch wood!

Cost, age, spec, pics?

It's not brand new unfortunately. It's the year 2000 (W reg) one. I'll have the logbook etc, but it's the Ghia 16v.

Cost me £1200, 128BHP (when made, anyway!).

It's this one I believe: http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/specs/Detail.aspx?deriv=15774

not to keen on focuses but at least isnt a renault megan or another vaxhuall !!
Ford make good cars, if you don't mind run of the mill. Cheap to maintain. Ghia is often worth having. More bells and whistles.

We once had a 2.8-litre 6-cylinder Ford Sierra estate Ghia, company car, (made in Germany of course) that delighted my wife because she could floor it and leave the boy racers at the lights.

These days, she prefers Alfa Romeo. More expensive, but comes with a distinctive sound. If Zen drives Alfa, who wouldn't?

That's the beauty of them :)

I want an Alfa eventually, quite like the 156's.

156?

Not as "sporty" as yer average Alfa.

Just got rid of a 147, as in Zen, for a Mito.

Small but powerful.

Dont do for a new focus. Had one as a hire car a few weeks agao and there is so many faults/bad design bits on it!

Main one being is the clocks are always lit so you never know if your headlights are on or off.
Since i had that car i've seen loads of new ones in darkness with their lights off!

Meganes are great! :knock:

And Vauxhall, love their cars!

Nice, focus' are good cars :D

Was thinking of getting one myself, prefer the new models though (05 onwards?).. and at the moment abit out of my price range.

Maybe in a few years when i next upgrade :D

Pics as soon as I can :)

I like the 05 ones too but they're around 3k for a decent one. Think I got a steal on this 1 personally :)

Those 2.0L engines get to 60 bloody fast. Me and my brother own a track car with a 1.8L engine, putting in a 2.0 very soon. Easy to ECU remap, and easy to nitrous.

Seems fairly straight forward to me.. What about the indicator light on the dashboard to tell you if your lights are on or off?

And insurance group 17?? Thats very high, isnt it?!

9 seconds 0-60 but only 32mpg! i'd try and find a diesel version! :D bags more torque, same 0-60 but wayyyyyyyyyyy better on fuel.

Hydey
14-03-11, 12:24
0-60 takes 9 seconds apparently. I'd be willing to bet it takes less though.

Insurance was cheaper than the rover, with my wife on it who only has a provisional.

Very surprising.

they don't do a performance diesel version, but for 1.5 second hit on the 0-60 51mpg is rather partial

I never care about petrol consumption tbh. If you want to drive, you must put fuel in.

I understand some people just can't justify that, but it works for me as I need to drive. Simple :)

I need to drive, but with fuel costs increasing the cheaper the better :+1

I guess i've got mortgage/bills etc which some people dont

Knew that second line was coming ;)

Got rent, bills, debts to pay. That said, I don't buy myself luxuries like computer parts any more now I've got responsibilities, and won't until I've got a higher paid job probably.

how many miles a month do you drive?

Hydey
14-03-11, 13:06
Depends on whether I travel back 'home', it's 460 miles there and back. Haven't been up there for a while due to the wedding and what not, but on average I do that twice a month. Add 260 just for travelling to work (granted not a lot, but adds up..) then I'm doing over 1000 miles a month.

Granted, that's just about the national average, and I never claimed to do that much driving, but to me, the price of petrol is irrelevant.

Coiler is right though in just a couple of years that 20mpg difference is a lot of ££££.

I'm sure he'll work it out and you could save that every month.

That 2.0L engine is beautiful, shun these non believers :D

coiler
14-03-11, 15:10
Approx £777 a year saving based on 1000 miles per month.

*nearly* half the price per mile :clap

New pc every year ;)
