Just installed Ubuntu 10.10 (desktop) on my Samsung N130 and can't get wireless to work. Tried this (http://ajmatson.net/wordpress/?p=84) and it just disconnects me after trying and failing to connect. Help?!

Realtek 8192e ... I think. How would one check in Ubuntu? I'm new to it! @El Wayneo - if he dosen't spot the thread I will PM him :)

Can't remember how to do that. I have Broadcom which I know, from experience, doesn't work well in Ubuntu at all. I agree..PM Lorem-Ipsum

People get in a tangle when they install Ubuntu with the wireless switched off. I'd hope this describes your situation, because Ubuntu generally does OK with wireless:

On the L front there is an array of 5 status indicators. The middle one
is an antenna symbol, inverted triangle with a vertical line in the middle.

The Fn + F9 key toggles that WLAN indicator on and off (and also toggles
the wireless LAN function on/off).
You can often set wireless permanently on in the bios too.

For all that, the issue may be deeper and problematic with the Realtek device and some kernels:

Looks like that is a way to manually force redetection of the wifi while working in Ubuntu. Hard to say why it's losing it.

I tried Fn + F9 and it didn't do anything - but after running the script on that site it works! I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days and hopefully it'll keep working and I'll only use Windows on my PC (for games).

Well its still working :) Restarted 2 or 3 times now for installs so its looking hopeful! The real test will be if I can get all the software I need for school on Ubuntu - or equivalents - like circuit wizard and PROdesktop :L

It died... It won't list wireless networks that I know are there - claims there is nothing :(

EDIT: Ran the script again, cold restart, and it works!

I'm going to check my next netbook is compatible with Ubuntu - this is very annoying!

It worked - I put it into suspend - and it broke...

Is running the script then cold reboot the best way - or is there a better fix?
