Hi guys,

Just wondering if the 8800GS is any good as I've not actually read anything about it?

Would my 7950GX2 be alright for gaming at 19x12 res?

Cheers

The 8800GS is a cut down 8800GT, they are being released as the 9800GSO or something but are exactly the same, you lose out on bus bandwidth with the 8800GS, i would say that an overclocked HD 3850 would be cheaper and suit your needs. Remember high resolutions are not usually that good if you want all settings on high.

79gx2 was the king in its day and should have no trouble @19/12 with all but the most demanding af games m8.

if iwas you, with that card, i would sit it out till the end of the year and see what the new cards are like then.

Me, credit card? Got rid of that, was causing too much trouble lol...

I'm going to get my monitor first and see how it goes with my GX2 :)

Is the hand snapping really neccesary?

Well not anymore ive just noticed its a 320mb!!

On the other hand if someone stood in front of me with a 8800gts 512 and said the words "£75"

I would run over and get the hacksaw out and start sawing the hand off, once half way i'd give it a good *SNAP*,

i'd probably snap both hands off for £50.

320mb still go for £70 on that auction site. I know, I checked when I was looking at upgrading last week.

Hi guys,

Got my new monitor :) fantastic in flight sim, but in COD4 it stutters like hell... looks like I'll have to tweak the settings. Cant remember what I've got them set to but I've got no AA and AF...

How about the 9600gso 768mb (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/PCI-E/nVIDIA+GeForce+9+Series/nVidia+GeForce+9600GSO+768MB+PCI-E+?productId=31451) that seems to just have arrived at aria. Techgage reviewed it recently (HERE (http://techgage.com/article/palit_geforce_9600gso_sonic_768mb/3)).

You're still better off with a 8800gt, but it's only £94.

I'm going to leave it for now tbh, I'm going to wait until finances improve lol

That sounds like the time they gave the 8600gt 1gb memory.

Stick with the 8800gt everytime.

The nvidia line has got out of control, there are so many iterations that i have lost track nearly, the 9 and 8 prefix is misleading and the sheer volume of cards are unnecessary, AMD's line up is far easier.

coiler

i agree lynx. Nvidia are so holding back from released a "real" new card they keep rehashing the old tech and banging out a new name with different memory config and speed

nps m8, listen if it doesn't work i could always take that troublsome screen off your hands, i have a real nice 19" 12/10 here that works great, we could swap

they are the biggest hogs of fps in the game, followed by spec map and glow.

worst comes to worst you could drop to 16/10 and you should be fine with it all on neway

jonwoad

I'm not getting rid of that screen... not with the price I paid for it :P
