Well, the well known site speedtest.net has had an overhaul and they've introduced a new feature called speedwave.

http://www.speedtest.net/speedwave.php?h=87f9624d22d9a01e

You'll need to register to have a username tied to your results I think but you don't need to register to take part.

Mr. Strawberry

Your lead was short lived :L

Not sure how I got 7.45Mb since I'm on an 8Mb ADSL1 package which when BT add their IP Profile is limited to 7.25Mb.

Tell you what though, I have a line attenuation of 42dB and live ~2.8Km from the exchange so those results are pretty damn impressive.

0dB SNR hack ftw

Sadly my uni account doesn't let me log into CompSci's PCs, but they're on a dedicated JANET gigabit line and if you speed test you can consistently get over 300Mbps down and up.

Thats pretty darn impressive for a UK broadband connection. To get Scandinavian quality over here you would need to go leased line (or at minimum an SDSL).

What router are you using? Is that set up right?

BE only have ADSL2+ connections in which case your upload should be around 0.7-0.8Mb/s.

0.37Mb/s is a typical speed for an ADSL Max (ADSL1 8Mb) connection.

Make sure your router is:

a) ADSL2+ compatible.
b) Set to ADSL2+ mode and not G.DMT

popabear

isp o2 . access package .

Talk Talk have recently been the first to offer LLU at our exchange and are doing hard sell door to door canvassing .

Heard a lot of horror stories about them so unsure wether to take the plunge with them or not .

I like the fact that i get a uk call centre when i phone o2 .

02 access is just bt broadband with a different name badge on it, as for LLU it should be a significant boost to to your current set-up. Check the terms and conditions for any restrictions etc before signing up.

Surprised that O2 Access is listed as BE Unlimited actually.

Also, if you don't want to move to TalkTalk you could get a XILO package. Their TalkTalk ones aren't on their website, you'll need to look on the forums.

Absolutely solid connection, really fast, very small ISP so you'll never get slowdowns in the evening. Support it 10/10 too, I get a great response in about 20 minutes or less usually, even out of office hours!

Only downside is the price and limits on data (usually 50-75GB /month).

This really depends on your location, same with every ISP, some locations rock solid stable low pings, others unstable etc.

Included in the office rent :D Current contention of the connection = 1

Top speed is just under Gb link, but none of the existing wiring or the current Juniper firewalls (backplane of 350Mbps) can push it through at the moment. That's the next upgrade.

I remember last time I did that, Speedtest threw a wobbly, if I open up the firewall and caps the browser crashes even though it tries to get a different file to the one it normally uses.
