Speed Problem

The other day my internet in my house started being funny on one of my laptops(laptop A) and desktop, both would be fine downloading at say 250kb then next minute 10kb or 50kb and keep being really slow in speed, mainly around the 50kb and lower point but my other laptop(laptop B) is constantly working and staying at 350kb(where it should be) all the time, location doesn't seem an issue as I've tried the other laptop a where laptop b is but to no avail, I've reset the hub, look at the setting but nothing seems to working, any ideas.

250kb? R u using modem connection or something?

You need to update to more modern technology such as fibre-optic or copper cable/ADSL

I think he means 250KB which is around 2Mb.

around my area they keep trying to update my line to make it faster but they always fail
i was getting between 6 and 8Mbps
now i am getting this

I'm with Bt, it always use to be 350-370kb download on everything, yet know it only does it on one laptop and the other two barely get above dial up for reason, I can't see nothing logical, I've checked settings, reset the hub, updated drivers, one minute it will ber 200kb then next 10kb.

how are all the machines connected wired wireless?

what OS are each of them running?

Laptop A - Win 7 64 bit
Desktop - Win 7 64 bit
Laptop B - Win 7 32 bit

But as I say these were all working fine till a work or two ago.

Yeah and updating the drivers as well.

Yeah still getting 9.2/10kb download and dreadful speeds, yet Laptop B sitting next to it easily gets 350kb 24/7, makes no sense, Laptop A is higher spec and so is the desktop but that shouldn't make that much difference with wireless speeds.

Incidentally, to get 2Mb you would having to be running at a speed of 2048Kb. 1024Kb= 1Mb, 1024Mb = 1Gb (Lower case b means bit. Megabit, Gigabit, kilobit e.t.c.) To then get your acutual speed in MB, you need to divide the speed by 8. 8 bits = Byte. 1024KB= 1MB, 1024 MB =1GB.

if you go into your home hub settings (normally http://192.168.1.254)
go into settings and then advanced settings then broadband and then finally ADSL
see what your down and up speed is synced at
that should be able to eliminate your home hub as the fault if that is around/more than the normal speed you get
