View Full Version : £100m To Rebuild Manchester United
MANCHESTER UNITED boss Sir Alex Ferguson is poised for an unprecedented £100million-plus summer transfer buying campaign.
The 69-year-old is determined to leave the club in robust health once he decides to retire with a young talented squad capable of winning more trophies. Despite going to Liverpool today with a team that is the bookies' favourite to win him a record breaking 19th title, Sir Alex know that surgery is needed in the summer if United are to maintain their high standards of the past decades.
It’s why he is ready to use the chequebook once the next transfer window opens.
United lead the chase for Tottenham ace Gareth Bale and will open up with a £30m offer. Aston Villa’s Ashley Young is bound for Old Trafford for £20m, after Ferguson narrowly missed out on snapping him up in January.
Sunderland midfielder Jordan Henderson is another likely capture for £15m, though Michael Carrick could be included in the deal despite having recently signed a new contract. United are in for Everton’s emerging star Jack Rodwell too.

Very interesting if there's truth in it. I think they needing it even if they win it this year , need to fill a Ronaldo shaped hole .....
Yeah i think Ashley Young will go there, Bale won't go unless Tottenham fail to secure Champions League football.
Reina has said he will go there.
I reckon they'll also try to get Leighton Baines and another defender and maybe Wilshire.
Oh and possibly Fabregas if they put up £40 million.
cesc is going to barca.
reina said he wants to go back to spain to when he leaves anfield.
what they need is a new scholes and a new giggs and they still aint replace ruud.
Reina did say recently though he would go to Man U.
Bale has the potential to be as good as Giggs although Giggs has been solid for 20 years and Bales only really in his first season of awesome.
Giggs is irreplaceable really, Scholes not so much as he's just a shouty fouler really, commands respect well and oozes passion but not so hard to replace in terms of on pitch performance, especially of late.

Really really have to disagree about Scholes. Scholes is basically the Xavi of Manchester United. Can pick out a pass, dictates the tempo and rarely gives possession away. When Scholes isn't playing it's fair to say United don't know how to play through the midfield (which usually ends up in defenders hoofing it).Although it is fair to say that his age means he can't perform like he did a few years ago.
i wouldnt take any transfer speculation regarding united as gospel, we'll get another summer of unproven nobodies and the comical 'theres no value in the current market' saf quote that we are accustomed to hearing.
Sunday tabloids - whatever unattributed B.S. they feel like printing to fill pages. Worthless :-1
Well the cash must be there somewhere they put all that money from Ronaldo sale in the bank :weeee
Bale - £30m ? No chance Spurs will want £45m +
Young - am sure Villa would take £20m
Henderson do we sign Bigfoot as well
As well as needing a goalie and another Striker with Michael Owen leaving in the summer and not forgetting how to replace the always reliable Owen Hargreaves who for some reason is not being offered a new deal...
I imagine some of that 100 million is from selling the junk you have as well.
Young is going to cost a bit more as he is quality atm.
Maybe £25 - 26 million.
Selll junk we got a few bits lying round :)
Can see a few players going the other way in swap deals.
Carrick and Danny Welbeck for Henderson
i dont think danny welbeck will be moved on, he's been really good for sunderland, and as much as id like carrick to be sold i think hes been given a new contract because of his experience as giggs/scholes will be retiring in the not so distant future.
As much as Fergie has been awesome for Utd, it may be time to employ some new background staff first before splashing out megabucks on established players.
Consider how the last 20 years of success have come about - the youth academy generated a team that turned out to be nigh-on unbeatable and Fergie did well to bolster that down the years.
Now however, as in the last 5-10 years, where are the follow-ons from the youth setup ? thats purely down to the background setup not doing their job as well as they managed to 25 years ago and Utd will be on a hiding to nothing financially when Fergie goes and is replaced by someone who just wants to splash the cash to win stuff.

United have been getting away without having a top notch central midfielder in years (post 2007).
Carrick was decent a few years back, but no where near top notch and Scholes was now and then really good without hitting his usual heights of, say, 10 years back.
It is puzzling how they haven't really addressed this issue, particularly after potentially the biggest outclassing they have received in 20+ years in the 2009 European final.
Anderson has the potential, but is injured too often.
Ferguson should be using all his tricks and money to steal Fabregas. No doubt about it. If Arsenal end the season without a trophy again, he has to pounce.
Noone in that article tickles my fancy particulalry. Fabregas and Modric should be priorities. Enough with the donkeys such as Fletcher, Carrick and Gibson. Fletcher I guess has value, the other two have had enough time. Out with the donkeys, in with the thoroughbreds.
id give em £20 to go away

£100m just for Bale and Modric.
Bale signed a new five year contract in the Summer, worth alot of money.
Bit different to when Berbatov and Carrick were poached, they had just under 2 years to go on deals.
This is the Express. The only less creditable paper availale in the country is the Mail.

They got a good squad. Maybe add a left winger and another player as good as Park. Would love to see,
Upfront - Hernandez, Berba
Midfield - Rooney, Park, Nani, Valenica
Defense - Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand, Rafael
Goalie - Van der Saar
Subs Giggs, Bebe, Fabio, Smalling, Owen, Carrick, Fletcher
Lets go for it once everyone is fit.

I can only assume you're on a wind up.
How many teams win games, let alone trophies without any central midfielders?!
No way the Glazers can shell out 100m, maybe if there was a takeover.
Would be great if it happened, two new midfielders, a left winger would also be nice but I can't see it. I reckon some young 'value' signings will be added.

Yay the new Obertan!
There is no chance in hell that Fergie will be able to get Fabregas. He is a Barcelona boy through and through, if he is going anywhere then it will be Barcelona. When Wenger does have to sell him theres no way he'll sell him to a domestic rival.

Seen stranger things
cesc is going to barca, its like ronaldo with real the gaffa said give me 1 more year and then i will let you go.
young i heard chelski are sat with a 40m bid waiting.
man u bought all the best young talent in the uk back then which is why they had that great team but the rules got changed after that so the good young players have to play/train for a local team and not just let the big guns throw money at it. thats why chelski and man u now sign lots of 16 year olds on pre pro contracts and then loan them to their current club. 1stly incase they do become world beaters and 2ndly so their rivals cant buy them once they hit 17.
Actually, UTD have some potentially great youngsters on the verge of coming through, Morrison and Pogba to name a couple. If they got rid of the likes of Gibson who's never going to be good enough now and just gave some of these a chance then I'd feel a bit better

Ravel Morrison? off the field "antics" going to cut short a utd career i think!

Yeah he's a nutter apparently, but quality from what I have seen. Just hope he sorts himself out. If not then what a waste, shame the talent didn't go to someone more deserving.
Well Diouf is a complete tosser and still has a career, theres hope for the lad yet.

lol that's true, the sewer rat
pity we got rid of eikrem always thought he had a lot of potential

Yeah good point, I also thought he would get a crack at the first team, especially with the state of the current midfield. Another one to look out for is Tunncliffe (sp?) who's been looking a beast recently. I'd like to see one of the young midfielder chucked in now as part of a central three, at least they should have some mobility and can't be much worse than Gibson
