Even after my mate spent half hour trying to explain it (believe me, I tried to stop him...) I still dont have the foggiest idea how it's played or how you win.

I watched the Ashes a few years back when relaxing on holiday having always hated Cricket. It actually wasn't that bad, could have been the 35C heat or the cold beer though...

Nonetheless, good win for our small wee Island. :)

Well done Ireland - fastest ever century in a World Cup and beating us to boot!!

I don't get how we can go from winning the Ashes in some reasonable comfort to being stuffed by Ireland. I guess that either shows how inconsistent England are or how poor Australia actually were.
Either way that was a stonking victory for Ireland. Good on em I say, everyone loves an underdog to win.

You get your first significant victory of the World Cup and now your countries full of talent? Lol.

If your so full of talent, why haven't you done anything meaningful in previous world cups? Or heck, how comes you didn't beat Bangladesh?

I think I have a better idea of how much talent their is in Ireland considering i've grown up watching and playing against some of the younger players knocking on the door of the full and 'A' teams, the country is consistently turning out talented young players nowadays, since the last world cup we've had Dockrell and Stirling progress into the first team and don't be surprised to see either playing for england in the future. last world cup we beat Pakistan and tied with Zimbabwe with a team of amateurs that progressed into the super 8's in which we beat Bangladesh, at the T20 world cup we also had england by the balls, and they were very very lucky that the weather stepped in as I think most people would have backed us to chase 120 and knock england out 'early'. against Bangladesh we should have but it was a poor batting performance. also in recent ODIs against both england and Australia we've performed well and made it far from comfortable for them. I'm not saying that we're all of a sudden a 'great' team but we defiantly deserve enough credit by the ICC to back our development financially considering we've won everything there is to be won consistently year after year at associate level and are just as good as Bangladesh and Zimbabwe in ODI cricket in my opinion with more and more players becoming successful professional cricketers, see Rankin, Portefield, Morgan, Joyce, Niall O'Brien who are all really good county players.

England have struggled in the shorter form of cricket for years. England as a test side have been pretty strong for years.

And don't say it's the same, because anyone with a small amount of cricket knowledge know that they are completely different ball games.

this is true, which is probably why anderson is struggling so much atm. the ODI for england imo are really lacking a 'finisher' as the top four are looking solid for giving the team a really good platform for big totals but they lack someone who can accelerate the run rate at the end as prior is not a real hitter, collingwood is out of form and reaching the end as his batting really seems to be struggling atm and hes not getting any younger. and the likes of yardy are simply not good enough.
