Hey,

Im planning on getting a sound card, tv card and 5.1 surround sound. My only issue is that is my psu sufficent. One of my friends clame that my current build is allredy pushing it as i reciently got a new graphics card. So my question is 1. currently is my setup fine (power wise) 2. if i add the extra components will i then need another psu ?

might be getting close, though if its ok now i see no reason to expect a sound card and tv card to push it over the limit.

Run a few stress tests prime / orthos and 3dmark 06 or similar to load the cpu and graphics up and see if it becomes unstable.

Probably exactly what mac124 means but while system power consumption of that system certainly won't be hitting anywhere near 650W, the PSU itself might not be capable of running at high loads continuously. It looks like a fairly cheap unit.

Watch out for any symptoms (random restarts, shutdowns and failure to power on) and in the long term I'd most definitely look into a new PSU.

It tryed running both prime and 3dmark06, didnt see any noticable problems. I ran prime for just under 3h and had 0 errors, 0 warnings. I will probably run it again tonight. I was a little dissapointed with my 3dmark, scored 10815 as compared with other computers with similar builds scoring ~1000-2000 more. Would this in anyway be affected by my psu?

10.8k sounds fine for your system. The AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is what's holding your score back a a bit. For reference, I get about 11,500 with an 8800GT and a 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo.

650w should easily handle your component load, but it must be 650w of constant quality power without sags and spikes. So maybe look to investing in a decent make one.
And no, your psu doesn't really have an effect on your 3d mark scores, unless it stops you from overclocking your rig for more points. :)
