View Full Version : Is it worth keeping my old ide drive?
Hi
I am about to upgrade my pc with a Neo2-fr motherboard and e8200 cpu ect. I have also got a new SATA 500gb hard drive. The question is, is it worth keeping the old IDE 60gb drive in my PC or should I just start a fresh with the new one? Would it be bad to leave windows on the old one and use the other for storage? I'm guessing it would be a silly idea though!
Also my XP edition is OEM and pre sp2 so I guess it will not recognise the 500gb drive first of, but will it be ok to re-partition after installing sp2 from disk? I'm a bit confused about all this and just want to get it sorted out before I start messing with my current system!!!
Thanks!!
I would go with the new drive for the OS drive, and unless you have reason to believe the old drive is on its way out i see no reason to hang onto it, either in an external caddy (for keeping various files backed up) or in the pc, again as a back up drive or to store music etc on.
Why not slipstream SP2 into a new xp disk? And no i'm not making it up have a google for it ;)
i'd get the ide in the bin, seriously

Nlite should be your friend,
Before SP3 came out I had an XP install disk that I did myself that installs IE7 MP11 and all updates, Also had Intel AHCI HDD/Nvidia graphics and Realtek HiDef drivers.
The only thing i have been unable to work out how to slipstream is the .net frameworks

Any guides on how to get the programs and drivers in?
Is this what you mean?

Would it be as easy as it sounds? I only have Imgburn to burn DVDs would this work for a numpty like me?
As my XP is OEM I will probably end up having to buy a new copy anyway, knowing my luck!

Yeah, I'd do the same - get a new drive for the new build, but keep the old one in an external caddy..
