I have some PCI-E questions, specifically the actual difference between versions 1 and 2.

When you take a v2 GPU like a 9800GTX and plug it into a v1 slot, whats the performance hit? [if any]

I look at the specs for v1 and v2 GPU's they both say x16 speed, so is v2 just doing something more efficiently with the same amount of bandwith? Or do I have it wrong and x16 doesnt relate to bandwith.

And finally the reason why Im asking these questions is because I'm looking at using two 8800GT's in SLi. My motherboard is PCI-E v1, but it supports two cards at 16x Sli in both slots as far as I can tell.

2 has double the bandwidth of 1, so a x8 pcie 2 can send and recieve as much data as a x16 pcie1.

i think that the current gpu chips dont max out pcie1 but by the end of the year who knows???

9800gx2 might get some benefit from pcie2 but i havent seen any reviews to say yea or nah on this yet.

Ok cool, thats what I suspected, I wouldn't be bottlenecking a todays PCI-E v2 card in a v1 slot.

Brill, its time to look at selling my old card!

this is going against the grain here but if you can get another gts 320 real cheap i would give it some thought, 2 of them will out do a 9800gtx.

somthing to think about.

Hmm, I like that thinking. Its certainly the cheapest option, but how do you know it can be as good as a 9800gtx?

EDIT: Also whats 'real cheap', ballpark figure :P

Or sell your GTS 320 to someone looking for a 2nd card and get a gts512 or two :D

I wouldn't pay much above £60-£70 for a 320mb gts
