hmm i had a similar problem with my vps, would connect, let me login and once successful login would immediately disconnect me. But if i logged in as root it was fine.
If i remember rightly i had to request the ssh to be re-installed on the server. Which they had a bit of a hissy fit over because its an "unmanaged platform"... how else is it mean to be done, me drive up to manchester? lol
Potentially a firewall thing?
Recent problem I've had is that Skype likes to port scan a lot, which my remote server's firewall doesn't like, so blocks me periodically! :(
Denyhosts has probably added the IP you are using, that's what it is normally.
To test that, connect from somewhere else, then create a DYNDNS address for you home, and add it to /etc/hosts.allow
DT.

My IP way in the deny.hosts file.
I have removed it so you think ill be okay when I get back home?
depends on your denyhosts settings, if you pickup the central updates your IP may have gone in there, so will be put back again on the next update :)
I have no clue of what you are talking about :)
Yer it baned me when I went on last night.
I had to use HotSpot Shield to get on.

Do you have an online control panel in which you can reboot your Dedi? Reboot if you can. If this doesn't solve the problem, contact your Dedicated Server company support
that won't solve it at all mrnothersan
it'll just reboot the server, the issue is that Jackster has at some point in time failed to login within three attempts from his IP address, the denyhosts daemon that puts the IP in hosts.deny
The way around if you have a static ip is to put your ip in hosts.allow, as that overrides it. On dynamic, use a dyndns type host service to your ip, and put that dns name in hosts.allow.
hosts.allow, as that overrides it.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Did not know that.

Takes one reboot for me XD........ but my ISP is a PITA
I have a static IP.:thumb:
Well there's your issue :P
can you adjust the ban/deny list manually?
Yer I can edit them, But after 5 mins they revert back to baning me.
so edit the denyhosts settings .... in the conf file iirc there is a trust this ip address type setting
Now it's blocking me from getting on the web sites it hosts
