ok so i have my CPU overclocked using the Asus Tool with my motherboard and had it overclocked since January this year without no problems. But starting this week things have been going wrong, like when i turn my pc on and it loads everything up i get an error saying Error: Overclocking or Voltage was not done or somthing along them lines anyway. So i restart my pc and never got the error again but what i have been noticing is my pc preezes every now and then and its getting annoying now so what do you think might be the problem?

Oh and also today when i turned my pc on i get that error again. Here is a screenshot of my settings:
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/8621/systemfm7.jpg

Now these are the settings that Asus have supplied and i have used so if they have ****ed my motherboard or somthing up then im taking it up with them as they supplied me with the program and i used there settings.

Also the reason the temp is 38 is because iv just come off Battlefield 2.

Memory is high voltage here. Its okay some RAM can take this much but just to check that you've not given it too much?

I advise trying it on the default clock rates / voltages for a few days and see if it works fine like that ? Underclocking the RAM 10% and leaving the CPU overclocked seems to help with me in the past when it starts to get 'buggy'.

Also UK is hot lately. Perhaps the RAM/NB or another component is getting too hot. Something other than the CPU.

O O :(

My pc just 3mins completly lockup and could not do anything.

I restarted my pc and this time i got a new error which iv not seen before and it says this:

3rd Master Hard Driv S.M.A.R.T Status Bad, Backup & Replace.
Press F1 To Resume.

I though this is weird as i only have 2 hard drives which are both Raptors. So i dont have a 3rd hard drive so im confussed. I restart the pc and i got this error again. I dont have a clue what this is going on about but this time i just pressed F1 and it strarted loading Windows fine etc..

Im really confussed, also how the hell do i put my settings back to normal and not overclock, i can not find anything on that Asus Program to set everything back to default. Anyone know how to?

Micky007
08-05-08, 16:12
ok just put settings to only overclock at 5% where i had it as 30% before.

Just going to go in the BIOS and see if i can reset settings in there.

Micky007
08-05-08, 16:23
ok just reset everything and im now back to 2.4Ghz instead of 3.1GhZ but im still getting freezing on this pc which does not sound good at all.

THANKS GOD I BOUGHT 2YRS ARIA WARRANTY !

Anyone got any ideas on what might be causing this :(

Also when i looked at the BIOS the 3rd hard drive is my Second Raptor. But i dont know why its giving that error as it works fine as i can see it now with all my files and programs load fine off it.

try disconnecting the drive, if it failed smart then its toast, and could be causing the errors.

Micky007
08-05-08, 16:30
try disconnecting the drive, if it failed smart then its toast, and could be causing the errors.

i dont see how its toast if im using it right now lol. Ill try disconnecting it like you said and putting it back in and see what happens.

But i still can not find out why my pc keeps freezing still. I think there might be a problem with my Motherboard or somthing.

alexnifty
08-05-08, 16:32
As far as I know if your getting SMART warnings then your hard drive is giving off signals that it is dying.
I would try disconnecting the failing drive and see if your problems clear up.

If your problems go away then its time for a new drive!

EDIT: Heh, so the concensus is to unplug the drive for a while and use your pc without it. :)

Micky007
08-05-08, 16:42
ok so iv unplugged the drive and reconnected it back up again and still getting that error, if your right in what your saying Alex then dam i best do a backup before it does fail then.

But the thing is are you sure its the Hard Drive and not the Motherboard as im still getting freezing problems :(

Aaron
08-05-08, 16:47
This sounds obvious, but I cant tell 100% from your post.. If its not your disk with your windows install on it, did you try starting up the computer without the HD connected..?

Micky007
08-05-08, 16:53
no just about to do that now, brb 4mins

Micky007
08-05-08, 17:06
ok just unplugged the second raptor, strange thing i still got the error even though it was unplugged so im confussed. Just plugged it back in and got the error again still.

wonderlust
08-05-08, 17:08
areyou sure thats the drive giving the error?

Micky007
08-05-08, 17:12
yes because i even pressed F1 to continue to make sure that i unplugged the right one and it loaded windows from my first raptor so i unplugged the right one yes.

Micky007
08-05-08, 17:25
Grrrr this freezing is annoying, my cpu temp is fine, memory temp is fine. im really confussed also with this hard drive error which comes up even thought the hard drive is not even plugged in.

wonderlust
08-05-08, 17:26
have you tried with just 1 hdd?

cmos reset? (after noting all your settings)

Micky007
08-05-08, 17:32
yea i tried with just 1 hard drive, remember i took it out to see if i still got the error etc...

dont need to do a cmos reset as i went in BIOS and clicked to set everything back to default which it has done.

Still happens :(

wonderlust
08-05-08, 17:34
Have you checked the event log?

Micky007
08-05-08, 17:40
yea, the only thing it really shows is a disk problem, but you know i hate this cr@p as it doesnt say which disk and what its,

http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/4363/diskdz7.jpg

what the hell is harddisk0 ?

Micky007
08-05-08, 17:42
hmmmm just read this

This is a common and serious problem that I see every month in my line of
work.

Most systems today do not have a separate drive controller card and instead
use a controller chip that's built onto the motherboard. It is very, very
possible that the electronics is going bad on one of your drives, most
likely a CD drive, and electrically interfering with the controller chip.
You can verify this by unplugging the AC power cord from the computer and
then, at the motherboard (preferred) or at the drive itself, removing the
flat ribbon cable/s that go to the CD drive/s. Note the red stripe on one
side of the ribbon cable, just in case the connectors are not keyed --
plugging a cable in backwards can severely damage things. Clear your Event
Logs and use the computer, watch those logs carefully for more error
messages to occur about a bad block (do a check for bad sectors, then look
at the Event Viewer). If you get more such messages, also disconnect the
ribbon cable/s for anything else you have except for C. Assuming that you
have a Drive A, you might have to tell BIOS that you don't have a Drive A
for the system to boot properly (depends on the BIOS) if you remove its
cable. Simply removing the power connectors is NOT sufficient (a drive with
bad electronics can still load or partly load the controller via the ribbon
cable, even with power to it disconencted).

The bad block messages are a serious error report of current device failures
and impending total device failure. They get reported in Event Viewer if a
feature, built into drives, called S.M.A.R.T. is enabled in BIOS (and if the
BIOS and the drive itself supports the feature). If it were me, I'd
immediately put the HDD's into a different computer (one at a time), as
slave drives, and do a full and complete check on them for bad sectors and
let errors be automatically fixed, and then check again for bad block
messages in Event Viewer in the different computer. If they show up there
too, after usage following the repair of any bad sectors, then there's
little doubt that the HDD is just about to fully fail and attempts to back
it up (make a disk image copy or at least save your user files) should
immediately be made and not to use it any more than is absolutely necessary.
This procedure can rule out a bad HDD and instead determine that it's being
electrically interfered with by another drive, a bad ribbon cable (they flex
in the fan generated airflow and over time the wires can break, just like if
you repeatably bent a wire by hand until it breaks), or the motherboard
controller chip itself going bad. You can usually determine which is at
fault simply by removing drives and cables and, ultimately, trying a
different drive all by itself to rule out the controller chip, and then
watching the Event Viewer.

Should you have the misfortune to ultimately decide that the controller chip
is at fault then you might (might) get some temporary relief by installing a
separate controller card. But they're as expensive as a new motherboard,
which I'd then be recommending be replaced because electronic problems only
get worse with time and never "heal" or get better. Eventually the failing
chip might go completely and then start interfering with the motherboard in
other ways.

After the repair, be sure to again check the drive for bad sectors. I know
this takes a long time to do, but it's definitely necessary.

CR@P !!!!!!!!

Now i need to do a backup, im not going to do anything what he told me as i might **** it up and void the warranty. Looks like my pc is going in for repairs at Aria :(

wonderlust
08-05-08, 17:44
Well it's an area to test, have you downloaded each drive's diagnostic tool? Ie seatools?

And tested the drives?

Micky007
08-05-08, 17:50
no, just going to back everything up first and then use
Hiren's BootCD 9.5 (http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd)

wonderlust
08-05-08, 17:52
or just disconnect the hard drives and boot from CD

marsey99
08-05-08, 18:24
mick not being 1 to tell you your job m8 but i would rename that link as its a bit on the dodgey side if you know how to use it (great disk tho :D).

i was going to ask you about your mobo temps with the weather we have, my guess would be your sb needs some better cooling.

also asus suite is ****, use your bios.

alexnifty
08-05-08, 18:53
yea, the only thing it really shows is a disk problem, but you know i hate this cr@p as it doesnt say which disk and what its,

what the hell is harddisk0 ?

That will probably be whatever is plugged into the first SATA port.

Back your stuff up.

Then try running a full scandisk for bad sectors on both drives, it will take some time but should tell you what the problem is. I think scandisk can even fix some kinds of problems so its worth a shot.

You can also try the drives on another machine which has a SMART mobo, or a definitaly working drive in your mobo, should pinpoint whats to blame.

Also going to agree with marsey and say that Asus suite is utter rubbish. Use bios for a proper overclock.

wonderlust
08-05-08, 20:46
Or try another disc tool like spinrite

Micky007
08-05-08, 23:48
right well my main hard drive has just died on me :(

Keep getting blue screen of death and i can not install/repair windows on it either so iv just had to install Windows onto my second hard drive. Here are the test results i did on my main hard drive after it died.

Micky007
09-05-08, 00:05
the only bad thing about this is inow have to send Aria the whole of my PC because i can not take the hard drive out and just send it them or it will void the warranty i have with them :(

alexnifty
09-05-08, 00:40
Ouch, that really sucks dude.

I hope maybe some nice person at Aria can recover the drives data or something.

marsey99
09-05-08, 08:25
i was about to say i hope that extended warrenty covered data loss too as that can get a bit pricey if you need to send you drive to ze germans.

ul tho, see if you can get 2 samaung f1 500gbs for it insted and raid them :D

jonwoad
09-05-08, 08:39
Here you go micky...

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Laptops/Service+%26amp%3B+Repairs

Hope you got a backup...

wonderlust
09-05-08, 08:42
Thats cheap!

I have had quotes around £1000 per disk before

jonwoad
09-05-08, 08:47
Thats what we aim for... over 250gb you have to call telesales.

Cant guarantee that it's going to be successful.

I guess the 1000 would be to send it off to specialist recovery agencies...

wonderlust
09-05-08, 08:48
What the cheap or the £1000 :D

jonwoad
09-05-08, 08:56
The competitve pricing of course :)

wonderlust
09-05-08, 08:57
Lol, guessed that would be your answer :D

jonwoad
09-05-08, 09:02
Maybe I should work in PR lol

wonderlust
09-05-08, 09:08
hail the new Max Clifford :D

Micky007
09-05-08, 11:25
Hmmm.... i dont think ill need that recovery as the main hard drive still shows in My Computer and i have managed to transfer my most important documents from there to my second drive. Some i wasnt able to due to the hard drive being damaged :(

But iv got all the things i really needed thank god.

Me gets out the invoice, Ooooo i paid £139 excluding VAT so looks like i can get some nice hard drives now instead of these noisy raptors.

Also i just looked at the warranty, i paid for 2yr ON-SITE Warranty Parts Covered RPL. So looks like Aria can come pay me a visit instead of me having to go down there :D

Micky007
09-05-08, 11:26
Oooooo i could get one of these :p

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Hard+Drives/Serial+ATA/Western+Digital+Caviar+1000GB+-+Green+Power+-+SATA2+-+16MB+%28WD10EACS%29+?productId=29771 (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Hard+Drives/Serial+ATA/1000GB+-+1TB+-+Seagate+Barracuda+ES.2+-+7%2C200RPM+-+32MB+?productId=29413)

and somthing that cost £30 excluding vat :D

wonderlust
09-05-08, 11:29
If it were me I would sooner have a pair of 500Gb Seagate 7200.11, (if one fails you only loose half your data!) oh I forgot I have :D

Micky007
09-05-08, 11:34
lol, if you have them in raid, you shoulds lose ALL your data not just half.

marsey99
09-05-08, 11:36
the samsung f1s are faster.

Micky007
09-05-08, 11:36
anyway iv decided im going to get 2 of these

http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Hard+Drives/Serial+ATA/500GB+Seagate+Barracuda+SATA2+32MB+ST3500320AS+720 0RPM?productId=29640

but then that leaves me with £49.1 excluding vat left to spend. Hmmmmmm.....

wonderlust
09-05-08, 11:41
They are quick, why not get three....?

You could Raid 5 them then :D

Micky007
09-05-08, 11:45
lol 3 good hard drives for the price of 1 lol.

I think ill stick with 2 of them cause then ill have 3 hard drives i think that will be enough for me lol.

I think i might also buy the http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Peripherals/Keyboards/New+Logitech+G15+Gaming+Keyboard+-+2008+Version+-+Official+UK+layout+?productId=28810

Micky007
09-05-08, 11:45
brb going for a shower then i might nip down to the butty bar and get a nice frash salad or somthing.

Micky007
09-05-08, 12:49
right back, i think its time to give Aria a call, will wait till 1 though incase there on their lunch break.

Christine
09-05-08, 13:01

Micky007
09-05-08, 13:01
Ooooooo ill give them a quick call then.

Micky007
09-05-08, 13:05

Micky007
09-05-08, 13:26

09-05-08, 16:35
right well just got off the phone from a helpfull guy.

Hmmm shame i can not choose diffrent product than the Raptor as i dont really want a Raptor anymore as there kind of cr@p and not worth their money. Also he said even if it was possible then i would only be able to get items of what todays raptor price is and not what i paid for it :(

But anyway someone is coming down on Tuesday Morning to come and pick it up as im not in on Monday.

my review of Customer Support from that guy is EXCELENT !

Shame i can not really say them same to the Technical Department where i waited 3hrs for them to give me a call when i was told they would give me a call back in 30mins-1hr. Never got the call so thats when i rang Aria up again and was put through to who ever the guy i was speaking to who was very helpfull.

jonwoad
09-05-08, 17:07
