Hi

I had a few problems with Windows x64 - so removed it :) on doing so i got quite a performance boost - i was disappointed with my score in 3Dmark06 in it, at 1580...

I ran it again today and i managed to acheive..... 1592...

Heres the rig: i dont know whats wrong maybe you do.

Intel P4 640 3.2 Ghz Stock speed but water cooled, possibility to O/C.

3 Sata HDD- altho my 2 smaller ones, running windows ironically are abit dodgy so this could be one of the factors.

Asus P5GDC-V Deluxe mobo ( i think this is to blame tbh..)

2GB Corsair Ram, (Spec of RAM = frequency = 267.6mhz FSB:DRAM = 3:4, Cas# latency = 4 clocks, Ras# to Cas# delay = 4clocks, Ras# Precharge 4clocks, Cycle Time (Tras) 12 clocks ) means nothing to me but might to you, its DDR2- the ram is 667 but running at 533 due to mobo =(

PNY 6600GT PCI-E Graphics cards, the one Aria sell as an Arianet one - although my PCB and fan are diff to the one pictured. 500Mhz core clock and 1ghz Memory clock - i thought this was good but the card tends to struggle if VSync is disabled, and you have Anti aliasing on full screen and Texturefiltering also - probably due to the fact it only has 128mb memory?? Vsync is enabled in the 'global' profile and i have no problems with splitting :)

Coolermaster 'real power' 450w psu -

using onboard sound as i dont have enough room in case to access pci slots thanks to watercooler, case is in peices so far and it doesnt look like its getting back together anytime fast- my gf bent the panel to the side of the case when she sat on it :shock:

Any suggestions? Oh and write caching is enabled on all the HDDs- the Pagefile was moved to the fastest (and biggest) drive.

Have to say that sounds about right for a 6600gt, when i was running an 850xt i scored around 2.5k iirc. That was overclocked and looking at your clock speeds on your 6600gt i think those are standard clocks aren't they?

Might be worth investing in a Raptor, and use it as your primary drive for Windows.

Graphics is holding you back, and i dont know the real limitations of that motherboard. But have you tried flashing the bios on there?

Yep they are standard clocks - ill put the auto overclock on in a few hours when i have nothing else to od and re run it and see if it makes much diff, i didnt realise the 6600gt was so sucky, it plays NFS Most wanted alright :)

And i really would rather buy Seagates than WD drives- even though these two have failed they have been by far best co. at doing drives, and these drives haev only developed an intermittant fault :) so its not all bad :p lol

Bios is the latest available :) the mobo is abit of a hybrid one (i couldnt afford not to at the time) it allows both ddr and ddr2 ram, ide and sata, and wasnt a bad buy when i had it (about £120 i think)

I Wont do that again tho :) ill wait, promise :lol:

is it worth keeping these settings saved ? I suppose if i cook this card it gives me an excuse to upgrade before vista :) hehe,

although for me to sit for 15 mins and watch the test it did look quite abit smoother - especially the rockface one

man thats more than 100 points increase in 3dmark :)

definately keep those settings

but keep an eye on ur temps to make sure,

whats settings did u ovrclock ur card 2?

whats ur default core/memory?

and ur current core/memory?

Oops sorry forgot to add that, was gonna do it last and forgot

STOCK:

Core = 500mhz
Mem = 1Ghz

OC
Core = 562Mhz
Mem = 1.12Ghz

i would push it more but id like to keep it alive until i can afford a proper one :)

darn thats nice man!

heres my stats :(

STOCK

400 Mhz Core Clock
980 Mhz Memory

OVERCLOCKED

540 Mhz Core Clock
1180 Mhz

are PCI-E much better than AGP cards?

can u not overclock your memory more?

what speed is your memory on the card?

its DDR3 i think if thats what you mean ? and i probably can but like i said i cant afford to fry this one as its the only pci-e one i have :)

Nice OC

Ill buy a proper fan for the card if i can find one - and also i should move my water cooler abit as it obstructs the fan slightly.

If i do this tho im gonna have to spend in excess of £100 as ill change the case too and the case i wants over 90 quid :p

ah right :0 £90 nice

if u have watercooling cant u just get that near the g card and that should be sufficient enough :)

a fan only costs about £15 for a good vga cooler

can pick them up here actually from aria :)

that will keep your card freezing cold :D and available for potential overclocking :P

OK had to reduce it down to about 540mhz because i was getting weird results in games.

Locomania (sad i know but its a good test on card because of fog/smoke/weather patterns) had flicking patches all over the place... Green or Pink patches - if i reduced texture quality this went away ( i increased antistropic filtering and this didnt alter the results so i put it as high as poss)...

I then noticed the temps, - now ive never looked at my card temps before except for the one on my heatsink covered by GateWatch... which goes up to about 55deg c, gate watch was reading about 58/59 after 10 mins gaming.. Alt+Tabbed out - Temp was over 70 Deg and it was cooling down \"Rapidly\" to say the least...

could have been a little higher but hopefully not too much...

Bit disappointed - this is supposed to be good bang for buck and its done well :) just expected it to hold its OC settings...

I Changed the memory too - increased it to 1.14... didnt like that - flickering every now and then in 2D mode- even stranger effects in game...

on default settings and not changing any of the game settings this game was fine ;)

nice work,

yea i get the green flickering if i go to far aswell :(

that overclock u have now should be awesome :)
