Hi, I've been looking to help a friend upgrade his PC. I've heard this mother board (MSI MS-7301) has trouble with some 8800GT cards, something to do with the chip set and not supporting PCI-E 2.0 (I'm not very knowledgable)

I've tried to find this out for myself online but I'm not 100% sure and want to be before I spend any of his money on a new Graphics card. Would the following work with it or can someone recommend a good alternative?

Asus Extreme 8600GT 512MB Silent PCI-E Quickcode: #28044

Thanks in advance

Definately not the 8600, get the 3870 512mb if you want a good graphics card for a bit less than the 8800GT.

Thanks for the quick response. I've checked the 3870 512mb and it seems to require PCI-Express 2.0 x16.

I know it should be backwards compatable but can anyone confirm one of these working in a MSI MS-7301 Motherboard?

If it was my own PC I'd rip that sucker XD out and start with something better, but I'm a bit limited with what I can do.

Thanks Again

Ive never seen a PCI-£ 2.0 card not working on slower PCI-E

There are issues with some pci-e v2 cards and Via chipsets
