hey guys,

My home network is as follows:

Post office zyxel modem/router at the phone point.
Pc in the sitting room connected with a netgear wireless n usb adapter.
Ps3 upstairs in the bedroom connected wirelessly.
Ps3 uses my PC as a media server.

Now, when watching movies upstairs (using the pc as a media server) sometimes the playback can be a bit laggy. Particularly with better quality movies.

I also have a netgear WNR2000 (wireless n) router lying around doing nothing.
My question is, can i connect this to the ps3 using a ethernet cable and use it to connect to the zyxel and my pc? Therefore the PC to ps3 connection would be via wireless n.

Thanks in advance. :)

Yes, you could configure the netgear router to be a wireless access point and connect that to your zyxel router.

Not sure if that would fix it though, my guess is the problem is whatever you're using on the PC to be the media server. Try using TVersity if you aren't already, the Windows Media one sucks.

You'd need to set up the Netgear router as a wireless bridge, to work as you described.
I'm not sure whether it supports that or whether it would be compatible with the Zyxel, though.
Can you not cable it?

Nope, can't drill any holes as its a rented house :(

I use ps3mediaserver as I had "issues" with tversity in the past - although it's probably better in the latest build :)

I have mine cabled and it runs great... with wireless you may still get some lag - but short answer is yes you should be able to although it may take a fair bit of fiddling with the 2 wireless routers.

Cool, thanks for the info.

Might try tversity as suggested first, see how that goes.
I only need it for movies etc. :)

Tried Tversity, but its still the same.

Am i right in thinking that when the ps3 uses my pc as a media server it connects through my main(post office) router?

Yes you're right.
Have you tried turning off the wireless on the Zyxel, plugging your Netgear into the Zyxel, with DHCP & NAT turned off on the Netgear (so that it is just working as a wireless n access point)?
At least the part of the connection to/from your PC will be at wireless n speeds.
