Bike people of arialand! I need a new bike my trusty steed suffered some damage on the way to work this morning and it is not looking good :cry

So i have upto £250 for a replacement, i think i will be avoiding the supermarket full suspension for £80 bargains

It is going to be used for the 6mile round trip to work each day and the odd run out at weekends

Anyone seen any bargains lately? or should i be browsing the bay of e?

Thanks

Aww why not? :P

Jokes aside, funny you should ask as I've just put up a price check for my GT Avalanche 3.0

If that'd be any good to you I'll get some pictures and stuff up for you? :)

Keep my eye out for new bargains tho, all the '11 bikes are out now. Loads of cheap '10s.

If it literally is going to be used purely as a commuter/hack bike with no intention of upgrading or maintaining anything just go as cheap as you can. If you want something that you can have a blast on at the weekends without falling apart in a year you need to stretch into the £400-500 bracket really.

Ebay and Pinkbike are good bets for bargains on older models, you regularly see 06-08 Rockhopper's and Hardrock's going for under £300.

Just get a hardrock with the V brakes, should be cheap as chips. Or ebay, get a hardrock with discs, would be suitable for more off road pursuits as well, that way.

You could always just walk/jog? :)

I see you have your bike sorted instead which is cool :)

For the future it might be worth finding out if your employer is part of the cycle to work scheme as for the £250 you mentioned you could get a bike around the £450-£500 value :)

My employer (NHS) is always banging on about Staying Healthy but they do hardly anything for cyclists. No cycle to work scheme, poor cycle racks and one shower for the whole building.
