View Full Version : My Pride & Joy - Pregnant Woman Fail Edition

This is my pride and joy. Notice how the plaster from the dent in the wall compliments the decor of what's left of my beauty.

i7 950 at 4Ghz, Asus Sabertooth Mobo, 6GB Corsair XMS Ram, 2 x EVGA 570GTX Superclocked Ed. in SLi , 60GB OCZ Vertex 2E & 1TB Sammy F3, Corsair AX1200 psu , Coolermaster HAF X case.

This is what happen when over eager pregnant hormonal women move things around when your asleep.

My boy is under strict orders to put her through a 24 hour labour and weigh atleast 20lbs.

Insurance company trying to fob me off with a £1500 Comet voucher. Yippee!! The fight is currently ongoing with them.

Ouchies that looks expensive. How pregnant is she? Shouldn't really be lugging things like that about it she is far along.

More to the point, why is she allowed near your computer in the firstplace?!

It's a write off.

Insurance companies appointed chimps tested the motherboard, GPUs, PSU and CPU as dead.

Thing that really got me, is having to spend three hours on the phone to various people to explain and prove why a 60GB SSD drive is not the same as a 60GB regular hard drive.

Unbelievable these people. Supposedly "experts" when I know 12 yr old PC gamers with more savvy than those chimps. The insurance company needs to appoint someone competent.

Then having to explain why Comet's best £650 base unit isn't upto scratch to a complete muppet was sickening, was like reliving the crashing sound I heard.

She shouldn't have been lifting it, told her not to, but she was being stubborn. Didn't want the pregnancy to hamper her.

Last line was having a woman trying to mug me off saying a 3.2Ghz Athlon is a fair replacement for an i7 950.... because its 3.2Ghz.

This may end up having to goto the ombudsmen, the FSA, small claims court or a solicitor.

Six years of expensive home insurance premiums paid, for a policy with extra weight and cover and this is the grief you put up with. I've never claimed a single penny on this policy before, never.

Id suggest everyone check their policies and research how they handle these things. Id not trust that lot with a washing machine let alone much else.

Literally i doubt all the things are damaged. Can't you just ask for £1500 from Aria?

or you could take out the gpus, check em, and claim for the other 1100 if they work?

Stupid weak crappy steel and plastic cases.

See, she wouldn't of bothered moving a Lian-Li/Silverstone as she would be mesmerised by its form alone and even if it still did take an excursion the aluminium wouldn't of gave in so easy.

Oh absolutely, wouldn't be going on about a PC otherwise. lol She's as gutted as I am, because now i've stolen her laptop for the time being. heh

Another reason the PC needs sorting is that i'm going to be studying CAD amongst other things in the near future, need to further my prospects for the boy's sake.

I've not got access to the PC now, it's going be sent for destruction.

The edges of the GPUs were snapped in parts though, and the CPU cooler must have been thrown about because the motherboard behind it is cracked. Maybe that's why they just wrote off the CPU too. They aren't the most thorough.

Apart from the Comet voucher they said it was a cheque for £1350 instead because they get a discount from Comet... jokers, and i've argued against that. Blimming EVGA superclocks are £640 for the pair alone.

Got to ring them back tomorrow, hopefully they will just give me a decent settlement so I can get my new Aria beastie ordered.

im pretty sure most of that would still work, i had a pc in the other day from a couple that had moved house and put their pc in the back of the van, only to forget to lock the flap on the van down..

On the way to there new house, flap opens.. pc falls out.. bounces along the road abit then comes to a skidding halt

they brought it into our shop, told us what had happened.. we couldnt help but laugh..

Anyway..

A new case, new hdd, new psu and two hours work stripping testing and rebuilding saw it running again with no problems....

They was amazed that it still worked and to be honest so was we.. the case was smashed to pieces luckily the mobo tray was complete and untouched, the hdd had a HUGE dent in the top of it.. the stock cooler was missing its fan and was held on with one push pin .. getting the side panel off was the hardest part of fixing the wreck..

Did your pc fall from the top of the stairs?.. i would have been livid!

That's exactly what I did, on current prices from Aria and other online retailers. Photocopies of receipts, weblinks, allsorts.

Rhetoric nonsense of "Oh but its done on spec" ...like every 1TB hard drive is the same or every 3.2Ghz CPU is the same. Very backward thinking.

Made me laugh earlier when one woman mentioned more photos, my head nearly exploded. "YOU'VE GOT THE PC IN YOUR WORKSHOP, UNLESS YOU INVITE ME IN HOW CAN I TAKE MORE PHOTOS OF THE PARTS!!"

Does anyone know of anywhere that provides some sort of specialised insurance? Never considered it before ,but this has got me thinking tbh.

Would love to go on a nice holiday right now, but cost over 2 grand just to move into a new house with extortionate estate agent fees and more joy, NHS made me redundant. LOL

Considering it's a firm that is hired by the insurance company and is meant to specialise in PC hardware it's quite shocking they don't know what an SSD drive is, or what SLI is.

Should find out more at 2pm tomorrow, just want to be told a decent sized cheque is on the way so I can order a new one. My Steam library is crying at me, and my 3D Vision glasses and Asus VG236 are sat infront of me burning a hole in my soul.

I remember going through pretty much this with a replacement laptop.

The sticking point was the 1920x1200 screen. They specced up a rubbish laptop with a 1280x1024 screen and then had the cheek to suggest using an external monitor for 1920x1200.
I spent about 3 hours on the phone to various people trying to explain that the whole point of a laptop is not to lug an external monitor around with it!

I remember when I bought my motorbike and had some old lady crash into me two weeks later... they tried to fob me off with 1/3 the value... when I told them I had had it for 2 weeks and that I was completly disgusted with their offer, they caved and gave me full purchase value. I think they are trained to trat you like an idiot in all fairness, I bet it saves them a bunch of cash in the long run as people are pushovers.

Nice, only issue I find with retailer builds is the warranty is never as long as the warranty on the parts individual components.

Also suprised Aria are still selling the ASUS P8P67 Pro, unless they already have the new B3 version.

The MSI boards were out of stock. I'm not worried about the SATA port situation, I will only ever use 3 SATA devices.

Speed
24-02-11, 19:29
Just the SATA port issue. Port 0 and 1 plus the 6Gbps ones are fine however. Just as long as you are aware of the situation, also worth pointing out that any board that hasn't been replaced and therefore still has the issue will have reduced resale value.

Just check the revision once it turns up.

Last time I made a claim on any insurance, someone nicked my PC at my university lodgings. I recall first arguing with them that is was not just a single item worth over £1k (as items above £1k have to be specifically named on the insurance policy) and ended up sending them all the invoices for the bits. Got full refund for everything I had spent on it - argue they are seperate components and not just ONE PC should help in cases like this.

Shouldn't Aria have put some packing pieces in to stop a cooler that heavy from moving while in the hands of the courier? That is what I did with a system that had a TRUE, it went to Orkney fine.

Either way, phone up Aria and complain. I expect they will arrange a courier to collect it.

We're actively investigating improvements in delivery, particularly of systems. Unfortunately it's starting to look like whoever you go with you're stuck with ham-handed muppets tossing your carefully-built systems around :cry.

We're also seriously investigating different, custom, packing solutions for systems.

As above though, we'll certainly replace the damage and get you with a working system asap, ring Cserve!

It was really well packaged in all honesty. There was air wrap inside the case aswell, alot of it. DPD must have dropped it from atleast arms length i'd say.

I will also say i've had over ten deliveries from DPD over the past couple of years and never had anything like this. I just think i'm stupidly unlucky lately, i've had sore luck in many aspects.

Praying that it's just the cooler that's busted. Would like to try and avoid sending the entire machine back incase something else gets destroyed in transit.

Customer services have been superb on Aria's end, they are sending me out a new cooler for delivery tomorrow and hopefully all will be dandy.

Infact I would go asfar to say it's the best response i've ever had from a tech firm. Usually i'd have to RMA the bust cooler, wait years to get it back or something.

As above though, we'll certainly replace the damage and get you with a working system asap, ring Cserve!

the only real way you could be sure it would be safe would be to deliver high end systems your self but I think that's a little to much to ask with only 1 store

You ought to try putting blocks of polystyrene in to prop the co0olers etc up so they don't move. You can then cut the polystyrene to fit all the different builds.:)

We were looking into that, but then the customer would have to remove it before use and that could put off some customers as they loathe the idea of having to open up the system.

For particularly large orders (20+ systems) we do have a van and one of the warehouse staff drives to where-ever, but that's only because it's marginally cheaper than sending it courier.

Thing is, I don't think there's anything more Aria could have done here. It was packed excellently. The only thing that could have gone from drop-shock is the cooler or graphics cards as they aren't fully solid against a surface with mass.

Just one of those things. Just hope... pray... do a voodoo dance that it's just the cooler that has gone.

Added after 8 minutes:

Here's a better pic, looks worse outside of the case actually. Damn.http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/7463/wtfdpd.jpg (http://img683.imageshack.us/i/wtfdpd.jpg/) Uploaded with ImageShack.us (http://imageshack.us)

That's so frustrating after the time and effort put in building and testing your rig only to see those photos. I do hope it will get sorted for you ASAP

I know mate, soon as I saw it I did think that. To look at, everything else looks perfect from what I can tell. Really hoping that the awesome retention bracket for the Noctua stopped any unwanted pressure on the motherboard.

New one arrives today, take it from there.

Might not even be DPD's fault.
These coolers are too heavy to be transported in systems.
Hell, I've had a stock Intel fan fall off in transit, as well as a Hyper TX3.

based in Reading Arfur ...... in all seriousness, do you have a cot yet? I've got one in the loft and don't plan on going down that road again

I've got the same board, B3 revision, would love a few shots of the bios once it's up and running to see the overclock, overclocking mine from inside windows with the 2600K chip.

Well it depends on the mounting system, for example the Silver Arrow has one of the best systems I've seen where as the Intel stock cooler system is awful.

Hey mate, yeah we've got all the baby stuff. Really appreciate the offer though. Spare bedroom is loaded up with the stuff. It's tragic. Want the bugger to hurry up and grow up, he's getting a new PC every Xmas. haha

Moving to the far end of Winnersh this week, looking around the area we're going to be the scum of the block. Cross the field your at Sindlesham, up the road the other way a short while and it's Wokingham. Lovely stuff!

With any luck this machine will be sorted today, i'll take some screenies of the bios. Need that to hand the rate Asus are dropping bios updates.

Everything looks ok before new cooler goes in, fingers crossed it's fine.

These parcel delivery services are mostly down to who you get along the chain. If everyone is careful then no probs, but of course, it only takes one...

Good to see Aria customer services is still at a high standard :thumb:

Small world mate - I used to live in Woodley (next to Winnersh Triangle), and used to play badminton in Sindlesham :D

Really hope you get the new cooler in no problem and everything's sweet - can't wait to hear you're all up and running - it's an awesome rig :thumb:

Not a bad neck of the woods really. Grew up down Cemetery Junction *shudder*, lived in Caversham, moved to Nottingham, North London, Nottingham again and back to Reading. lol

All i'm missing is a caravan.

Know any good pubs around Winnersh / Sindlesham?

I go the George every so often, and used to frequent the one opposite Sainsburys a fair amount as that's where I worked for a few years.

Cemmy junction was where I brought my first house :) The Eastgate was my local for so many years, still in touch with the landlord who has moved back to Ireland.

If you do need to test each part, give me a shout

Up and running, Windows installed, drivers installed. So far so good. Run Intel Burn Test to check temps... hottest it got was 68C. Very happy so far.

Checked GPU temps. Top card was idling at 35C ...bottom 33C. That is 10C lower than my pair of EVGA 570 SCs that I had in my last rig.

This used to be an excellent pub... used to cycle/walk there across Dinton Pastures and stagger back trying not to fall into a lake :p

The George used to be my local... grew up 5 mins walk away from the cinema and there - dread to think how much cash we used to get through at those 2 establishments :D

I remember the days where they'd stop serving drinks at 11, but served food until 1 I think... and you could order drinks with food... :ninja:

1 bowl of cheesy chips and 6 pints please :thumb: :D

That's right near me. I'll be down Jersey Drive next to that huge field. Have to be weary of the Whitley lads coming over there to abuse sheep.

My local haunt use to be the Purple Turtle in town and a few of the shady nightclubs that have since been shut down

Spurs have beat AC Milan, the PC is rocking and the gf bought me beer. :weeee

My trinity of good is complete. Trinity of fail can wait a night.

I promise I will get some good pics taken, it's looking spot on.

Crap, i'm sooo old. Lately, been enjoying beers at weird pubs in the middle of nowhere out of town.

Jekyll and Hyde out Basingstoke way is nice. Weird places like that.

Matrix nightclub ruck put me off the town centre tbh.
