Ok, so I'm just in the process of looking at what speed we can get at our house..

When I did a check of services last week, everywhere said that the maximum speed we could get would be 8mb. However, I just happened to see this on SamKnows:

Your exchange should have ADSL2+ services installed by the 28th of February 2011

So - doing some more investigation:

BT is saying that we can currently get 17mb here.
Eclipse (our local ISP) is saying that we can get a maximum of 8mb
Virgin (who we are currently with) says on their website that we can get an 'up to 20mb connection'. It used to say we could only get 8mb.

However, our router only syncs at 7.6mb and we normally get a maximum download speed of about 3mb. Currently, our download speed is around 0.8mb (it used to be a constant 7mb when we were with BT)..

SO - who/what do I believe. Surely if Virgin were able to give us 'up to 20mb', then it would automatically switch over to that speed?

You are connected to the Honiton (http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/WWHONI) telephone exchange.

ADSL is available in your area
Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services
Your exchange should have ADSL2+ services installed by the 28th of February 2011

According to BT Wholesale, houses at your postcode should be able to support
up to 2Mbps via ADSL
6Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max
8Mbps or greater via ADSL2+
Standard ADSL RAG results

You can receive 2Mbps ADSL
You can receive 1Mbps ADSL
You can receive 512kbps ADSL
You can receive 256kbps ADSL

And yes, modem can definitely support ADSL2 - infact its even set to ADSL2+ mode now. It syncs fine, but only at 7.6mb..

Come back when the 28th has passed?
Yeah, I will. I'm just wondering why everywhere is saying I can get it now! BT is even advertising it as a possible 17mb connection today..

You should be able to get ADSL2+ by 28/02/2011.

BT might be behind schedule though.

If you're current ISP has you on a 20CN package you'll need to get an upgrade to a 21CN package to get the 24Mb.

Virgin can't give you 20Mb - they claim I can get up to 20Mb but I could only get 8Mb.

Hmm thats interesting to know. If they can't and others can, thankfully we're out of contract with them in March I think..

Line stats are fine. Syncing at 7.6mb, when the max has always been 8mb is pretty good. When we were with BT, we got the same sync speed too - but they actually gave us that download speed too..

Well, they might be able to give you 20Mb after the BT 21CN but I don't know.

I thought Virgin's 20Mb was on C&W/Bulldog's LLU?
