Greetings!

On thursday eve my delightful girlfriend declared thusly that I was free to purchase a new case for myself, to save her the trouble of buying me something for Valentine's Day. After I finished weeping tears of joy (seriously its a Dee Eee Double Ell - nuff said) I hopped onto Aria and basketed one of these http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Cases/MIDI+Tower/Xigmatek+Midgard+Pure+Black+Edition+Gaming+Case?pr oductId=38521

and after some shenanigans on my extended lunch break picked it up on Friday afternoon.

Obviously Friday evening was a glorious orgy of computer parts, dust and making sure my house was free of static. What follows is my journey into the relatively unknown world of cable management.

Yes I have an awesome Zebra print rug. At this point I was thinking.. what could I work on that would give me more static than ever... thats right a polyester rug :clap

Notice the vast difference in size? Yeah it weighs three quarters of a million tonnes... empty.

Second pic

All empty! Looks a bit sad doesn't it? See that cacky stock cooler? More on that later :knock:

Third Pic

Yes its a backplate with seemingly millions of holes in it. But check out those 4 arranged in a square. Thats what the cacky cooler attached no... where in the new case there was not such plate. Cue 25 minutes of phone calls ranting and despair before the Missus pipes up ''Why not use the one in the PC upstairs?''

GENIUS! and it turns out its a Coolermaster! Epic win! Only not... because it took me a further FORTY minutes to attach it because of the stupid plastic spokes that clip through the mobo. Bruised fingers was an understatement.

Pic Four

Woooooo! We are cooking with flammables now! :P

Pic Five

The finished article just about to put the side panel back on with an extra fan. Nice and cool temps now. However I'm getting a stupid fan fail error, despite all fans spinning fine, oh and I think one of the front USB slots cable is damaged. Other than that its all gravy :D

Cheers!

Jon

you could run the CPU 4 pin under the GPU mate :)

a respectable first attempt - could have done without the bombardment of calls and texts (only kidding, i like to help :p) glad you got there in the end.

-edit- you can have my fenrir when i get round to buying the NH-D14 mate

Its such an awesome case for th 51 quid or so I paid for it (<3 Aria), and Ian did an absolutely ledge job on the cables, even going so far to make sure the sata were all red/orange :D

Reporting a ~1/2 degree drop in the temps as well as i'm using the stock case fans no additional. Idles at 29 degrees and rises to 45 under load (tested playing Crysis @ 4 x AA and 1440x900 Res) GPU sits around 68 degrees. Airflow is stunning and its not too heavy.

Takes the M-ATX and ATX form factors.

It's going to be painful to undo it all when i get a new mobo but that will be a few months yet :)
