Hi! Recently upgraded to an E8200. I planned on keeping my 7900GT for the time being but it's dying a horrible death (games rendering assets in black, nasty-looking red artefacts on the screen).

It seems the 8800GT is a good choice at the moment- cheap and powerful; but I'm unsure if my PSU can give it the power it needs.

My PSU is an Antec SmartPower 2.0 500w.

The max output on the 12v(1) rail is 17A
The max output on the 12v(2) rail is 19A

(The PSU uses 12v(1) for motherboard and peripherals (=gfx?), and 12v(2) for CPU).

With the current 7900GT and only using an internet browser at the moment, PCProbe is telling me my +12v rail is 12.32v. I have no idea if this is low or high, but the system isn't exactly being stressed at the moment.

I'm struggling vainly trying to remember my Physics GCSE many years back- so I'm hoping one of you can help me :)

If it helps, the card I'm looking at specifically is the "I (http://www.******.com/product/135072)nno3D 8800GT OC edition 512MB Dual DVI PCI-E Graphics Card"

It's a neat (and- at the time- expensive!) PSU with modular cables so it'd be a shame if I had to upgrade it, and as I wouldn't buy a cheap PSU, the total cost of PSU+GFX card would be a bit prohibitive.

Many thanks for any replies!

That psu does seem to be good enough, obviously in my books they are only modular supplies if they are any good, and there are plenty of reviews of that psu, so i would assume that you will be fine to upgrade to the 8800GT.

Thanks for the reply, Lynx.

Interestingly, I just found this (http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/1248/17/page_17_power_consumption_tests/index.html).

Yeh, honestly it should be fine.

Buy a can of compressed air - 22545 and I reckon you can clean all the filth out of your 7900 and it'll probably be working fine again...
