Hi

My main place of work is renewing our Dell contract (about 100 Pc's and monitors) so Dell have kindly given a 20% voucher to my Boss for upto 5 laptops on 1 purchase.

I'm in the lucky 5, i can also get it Vat free through the company as well.

Sooooooooo, i've been looking and there appear to be no real difference in the core i3 or i5 CPU's in laptops, just clock frequency.

You'd think the i5 would be a quad but its not.

Is that it or am i missing something???

Anyway i'm looking at a 17" XPS with the Core i5 480M and 1GB GT435M.

Supposed to be £700 but i can have it for £450 ish.

Is there anything better on there for around the same money?

Nah, all of the i5s are duals atm. Sounds like a great deal - see if you can get the 3 year NBD warranty too - would be well worth it. SBs laptops were due to come out in the next fortnight or so for Dell IIRC, but obviously the Cougar Point bug has put that on hold lol.

Yeah i was going to wait but its a great deal.

I just spent money on a new laptop as well, but its an AMD Athlon II 320 with HD5145 graphics, pretty good but its a little sluggish.

Main difference is i5s have turbo boost. Part of my new job is to replace alot of the old machines in our business, have been getting Dell business machines in and they are superb :) Mainly Latitude E6410s and E4310s.

a few things on the i3 have been disabled, like turbo boost..

the laptop I got last week is an i3 and I only got it cos it was cheaper that most celeron and x2 lappys plus for £297 I couldn't resist though the price did drop by £20 on Thursday I think lol

Ahhh i didn't know about the turbo boost.

Good thing i went for the i5 then.

Just paid my boss he worked it out as £418 as the shipping is free as well.

Not bad for something thats £699 on the site.

My wife's got an I5 laptop but it never impressed me Dell have a habit of installing loads of crap like that dock that take 40 seconds to load.
Popped in a SSD and the thing flies now.
