Well I started this morning with my mum nagging me about all the letters I had stacking up, so finally started sifting through the lot. Going through my bank statements I realised there was a lot of stuff coming out that were just invisible to me as I'm the worst for checking that kinda stuff. I then set out to check to see what else was available at a cheaper price.

First off, usenet subscription - this comes to about £10 per month with the current exchange rate. Currently with newshosting, but I seem to recall someone here saying they liked their service with astraweb and that it was cheap. A few minutes of digging and I find that there is a annual service for $96 result! That's a saving of £56 annually. Newshosting cancelled straight away!

Buoyed by this, I went about tacking some of the other bills.

Call plan with Talk talk, comes up to £15 per month (for free calls any time)
Line rental with BT comes up to £16 per month
Broadband with O2 comes up to £16 per month

Total £47 per month. Or £564 annually

I was thinking BT infinity @ £28 pcm + £10 pcm if I paid the line rental up front for a year for exact same service as we have right now. Not too shabby, a saving of about £9 a month. 18 month contract. Savings of £108 over 1 year

Went to the disconnections team at O2 who promptly told me - that they would not only give me line rental and free calls anytime for £13.50 pcm, they would also throw in 12 months free internet - on the 20meg unlimited package - we care currently on the 16meg package! RESULT!!

£13.50 annualized = £162 = a whopping £402saving for this year for a 12 month contract. While the BT 40meg is so tempting, this for me is a no-brainer.

So for 2 hours worth of phone calls and internet surfage, I've saved a whopping £458. I'm feeling well chuffed. Sorry for the mundane details, but if anyone is looking for a change I recommend O2 - never had any issues with their BB service and a phone is a phone as far as im concerned.

Interestingly, I phoned O2 today as well regarding my broadband.

I stayed with my original plan, despite getting a good offer, because the "new" contracts have traffic shaping at peak hours. The existing contracts don't.

Like you, my cousin would vouch for O2.

However, you're both on the 20/24Mb (ADSL2+) package which is great.
Move to O2 Access and it's a whole different story...

From what I've heard you're lucky to get 0.1Mb in the evenings.

Ive been with o2 many years and they have served me well. The best part is the free UK help line and they way they plash out money for problems they cant fix straight away i was £60 in credit after the last router problem.

thats not really o2 fault as they have to lease those lines they aren't their own so cant manage the actual lines.
