can mike tinal deal with the pressure of a royal wedding captaining the English team through the 6 nations!?

Can Scotland capitalize on their great autumn series after beating the world champions and winning their last 6 of 5 internationals?

Can Ireland get out of their rut and take something from the 6 nations before going into this years world cup?

Will Wales stop their players from drink driving golf carts?

Are Italy going to try and put up a good fight this year?

Can any of us please stop the frogs from winning!!!!

Im rooting for Scotland this year they deserve it im living here and after all im half scottish half northern irish!!! time to support my dads side for the 1st time :P

I can't wait for tomorrow nights game. Always a great atmosphere here in Cardiff!

As for the golf cart driving Andy Powel....IT WAS AMAZING :D

I sadly don't see us Welshies doing that well really. But as the song goes, 'As long as we beat the English, we don't care :D'

Be nice to have a chance to watch a few games. You never normally get rugby at all on free tv so don't often see much. I'll probably get a lot of hate for saying that I like american football when it is on too (usually only the super bowl final :().

05-02-11, 12:07
Felt the game was ok, I thought the end was typical England though, while Wales defended the line really well, we should of looked to get the ball across the line quicker, it became apparent quite quickly that we wouldnt be able to just drive the ball over the line that so we should of looked to switch it.

Scotland just weren't clinical enough they attacked so well though better than any other team out of those 3 games bar France, a force to be reckoned with i think!!

11-02-11, 10:52
another weekend we have

England vs Italy

cant see Italy winning but maybe England will go into this to confident, Italy vs Ireland they were good.

Think it will be England 24 Italy 19

Scotland Vs Wales

I can only see Scotland improving on last weeks game vs France i see more tries for them than last week and unless Wales pull it together this will be their 9th game in a row lost

Scotland 32 Wales 21

Ireland Vs France

Ireland were awful not clinical enough didn't finish off the Italians and if they play like this against France they are done for, then again they will have had a beasting this week and a few points to prove after that Italy game.

I see this a close one but just cant call it maybe

Ireland 20 France 20 an draw!!

Chris Ashton has been good ever since his debut for Wigan in the Superleague. Good to see England have a winger that can come in to attack, not just sit outside.

Ireland kept committing the same fouls over and over again and were punished. The game was Ireland's to loose and they did. If France put up that performance against us, we should romp home!!

Dan Parks dropped to the bench for Scotland. As a Cardiff Blues follower, I've got a lot of respect for his boot but he's awful for getting a backline going.

Added after 3 minutes:

Ruaridh Jackson to start at 10 for the Jocks then - although I'm bound to have seen him play in the Magners and he's has a couple of caps now, I can't place him at all. What's his play like?

Trouble is, Parks tends to stand so deep ready to use his boot, that the backs have poor shape and aren't running at pace from depth. Cardiff have got around that for the first half of this season due mostly to having a playmaking and elusive centre in Casey Laulala. Since he's been injured we've lost any momentum in attack unless Ceri Sweeney plays 10 :surprised:.

Scotland don't really have a centre able to mix the game up in the same way, and so passes tend to be forced under pressure (much of it self-imposed) and mistakes happen. It'll be interesting to see how they go with a more playmaking 10 then.

I'm fearing a much more fired up Italy team playing against us (Wales) this weekend after their humping by England. It's silly really, as we were only 7 points short of England despite playing poorly. I know England didn't play great in the opening round either but they were very beatable and we couldn't stay composed.

I guess I'm just used to Wales upping and lowering their standard of play according to the opposition these days. We have the ability to put a large score on Italy, but we won't - and we'll probably limp home with a narrow win after almost giving them the game (literally - James Hook is usually quite adept at passing to Italians...).

Clunk
26-02-11, 16:43

Except the gift ball came from Bradley Davies / Morgan Stoddart. Italy would have won that if they had a goal kicker.

Ah good. So if England romp home to victory we can be the ones calling it a "Non vintage" 6 Nations. :D

I've managed to land a ticket to the Millennium Stadium game today, so should be fun. Both Wales and Ireland still have an outside chance of winning the 6 Nations* and are playing at a similar level at the moment (not easy to beat, but playing way below they're ability as a whole) so both will be hoping this is the game where it clicks.

That was great to see. I think France should have had a penalty right at the death, but who would begrudge Italy that win? The cheer in our pub was massive, and put us in a great mood heading into the stadium for the Wales game.

...and the Wales v Ireland game was odd. Both teams still keep misfiring, and again Wales stumbled out on top. Mind you, I did catch this ball that Sexton miskicked... ;)

Bitter Scots and Welsh. Not our fault they are rubbish.

The celtic nations have had rivalry's with England for centuries.
Its the same with any sport, teams will always have rivals that always mean something more then the average game, the most prevalent being football with local derby matches. There is no harm in people having national pride, and a bit of friendly banter between teams.
As for Wilkinson, well the reason most people dislike him is because of he comes across as arrogant, and his unique kicking style doesn't help the jeers he recieves.
He is however a well accomplished player, and people respect that.

Anyway, I found it very harsh on the ref in the England vs Scotland game, when everyone laughed and jeered at him while he hobbled off having clearly just tore is calf muscle.

El Wayneo

Need to play a little better against Ireland and cut out the errors and they need to stop doing that under arm behind throw as they never get caught as we dont have the skill to pull it off.

I agree with pretty much everything else you wrote, but this? Really? For the amount he's achieved, he's got to be one of the most humble sportsmen I've seen. Not to mention the workrate he puts in on and off the pitch.

If anything winds people up, it's the constant shoehorning of Wilkinson into any rugby commentary by certain pundits and writers.

I find it amusing when pundits say that England are going for the Grand Slam, however their indifferent form means that anything is possible.

They've won all their games, their form couldn't be better - ok the style of play, and quality could, but not the form :)

Clunk
19-03-11, 13:02
Yup, it's just a matter of Ireland beating England by 20+ odd points, and Wales doing the same to France in Paris, to turn over the 42 points difference lead England have. Piece of cake ;)

Don't worry El Wayneo - the 6 Nations is safely England's (and rightly so - they've been the only team playing half tidy rugby with any consistency. That is unless the IRB's apology to Ireland extends to a 30 point head start going into today's game, and France's players are in disarray following their coach lambasting them all as mentally weak disgraces to the shirt last week so they all walk off the pitch at half time. Maybe then Wales can think about putting together an attacking move that involves keeping the ball in hand. Maybe...) :D

Hmmm... actually I'm just off to place a bet on a Welsh championship win...

El Wayneo
19-03-11, 14:59

I have to agree there. None of the northern hemisphere teams showed any of the spark that we usually see form them. Since the autum tests last year none the only team I thought we would see something special from would have been Scotland, after their upset over the world champions.
All in all it was a very scrappy and fumbled tournement. It was anyones championship simply because there was not one team that stood out.
You can say England 'stood out' but although they did show pace and spark in some situations, they are still far from the 2003 side. Same for wales and the their 2005/7 side.

True, but having fallen short of the 'Slam could do them some good. They will be more aware that they aren't the finished article but have something worthwhile to build on leading into the world cup.

Same with Ireland to an extent - they've shown glimpses of today's performance through the tournament, but never managed to nail it until the final game. But they have a lot to move forward with.

Not sure I feel the same about Wales at the moment. The one thing we've done well this 6N is defend... and that went to pieces today. Whether that had anything to do with Shaun Edwards' being suspended this week, who can say. It's been annoying that we've had solid foundations but had nothing whatsoever to lay on them... and worse still we leave this tournament not knowing how to attack and possibly now even doubting the platform we thought we had. :(

It's still a long few months until the big stage though and anything can happen, but I'd far rather be in England or Ireland's shoes now.
