Right i might be able to finally upgrade my stoneage pc. Specs for new one if i get it.

CPU: Intel Q6600
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
Ram: Corsair XMS2 DHX 4096MB 800mhz
Gfx: GeForce 9800GTX 512MB or a 8800GTX
PSU: 700w ATX SurgeControl p/s

Would it be a good setup?

I presume it's for gaming? You already have the peripherals etc...

Processor and memory are fine.

The motherboard is ok but if I was you I'd get the P35-DS3 atleast.

The Graphics card, the 9800 isn't worth it IMO I'd go for an 8800GT/GTS or wait until the full range it released atleast.

What brand is that power supply? Make sure you get a reputable one!

Do you have hard drive(s) and optical drive(s) already?

And what case will you be putting it in?

If possible could you give us a budget and we could see if you can get better bang for buck...

dont get an 8800gtx , get an 8800gts 512mb ( g92 core) cheaper and performance just on par with gtx ( better in some situations)

Please tell me its not this psu http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Power+Supplies/500w+%2B/700W+ATX+SurgeControl+Power+SUpply?productId=29000&rqcRate%5Brating%5D=0&rqcRate%5BitemId%5D=173212&rqcType=r&page=1

Dude you run that rig off of that psu and i will hunt you down and beat you liberally around the head with it.

600w OCZ stealth extreme minimum to run the pc you specced.

Unbranded psu's inherently are made of inferior parts and are branded at peak not max continuous usage. If one of these branded psus fails, then you will not be covered, while a good branded one will have a warranty and will blow themselves before they blow your components.

Then how am i supposed to pay an extra £70 for a psu ive been using **** ones for years and they havent failed me plus if they did break they dont send a current down the line higher than what it outputs so its never damaged other components. Whats the difference between the GA-P35-DS3L and the GA-P35-DS3?

The psu is the most important part of the pc. Why run the risk on a new pc? I have seen people with brand new pcs fail, because of the psu blowing them. If there is a lightning shock in the system, it will take out your pc. I would say that even a 520w corsair will do you. It is a necisity that you use a good pc.

well if you lot are saying i should get a different card then i would probly get 2x 8800gt or 2x 2900pro which would also mean i would need a bigger better psu

edit £62 for a 520w psu i think not

If i am honest a Sli or Crossfire system will not work on that psu without trouble.

Why not say what your budget is and i'm sure we'll be able to sort out a quality system for you.

But i agree with everyone else. the power supply will give you no end of issues that a branded unit wouldnt.

would you buy a porche and be happy with steel rims and budget tyres......
why ruin a good spec system with a cheap as s psu. save your money on the graphics card and put it towards a psu.

8800gts 512mb card with a ocz 600w stealthxstream psu and you'll be sorted.

This is a common issue with people getting caught up over 'wattage', see this thread (http://forums.aria.co.uk/showthread.php?t=4621) for details :)

The OCZ i suggested is around £40 and its not the current / wattage you should be worried about if a psu fails its the voltage, if a "generic" psu starts to fail it could well put alot higher voltage than specced, ie you could get 8v on the 5v rail as it fails to regulate properly and it could well nuke drives / mobo etc etc. At the end of the day its your money your pc so you must do what you feel is right we can only suggest other, better, options in our opinion. As Aelred said the psu is often the most neglected part of a system yet it is arguabley the most important.
