Anyone here ever used GeeXboX? (http://www.geexbox.org). It's a tiny (only 9MB) media centre operating system which can play pretty much any kind of media file off a HDD/CD/DVD/Network. It's excellent for turning an old worn out machine (or even a brand spanking new one) into a media centre.

It's emphasis is on configuration, or the lack of it. It comes as a live CD and will boot out of the box with full hardware support (including IR remote controls) and has plenty of additional features, it can also be installed to HDD with additonal config/themes available if necessary.

I might have to have a proper look at this and see if I can port it to the Wii

I have be messing around with theam Twizzlers Twlight hack,

I have a Custom Kernel booting, not managed to get a Working Linux system on it yet, but I have been lazy and have only tried changing ARCH flags to use a Cross Compiler.

When I get it working ( based on my own Custom Linux or this geeXboX ) I'll post it on here and at www.wiibrew.org (http://www.wiibrew.org)

At present you would need a copy of Zelda Twilight Princess to get it to boot

NB Twilight hack takes advantage of a stack overflow bug in the game which gets you past security signatures and gives you full haredware access.

but no fun

Anyway , just had a divx playing on he Wii
it isn't anything I put togther, it was the Wii MFE port in the media section here
http://wiibrew.org/index.php?title=Homebrew_apps

I havn't had 100% success with it, playback stops after a couple of min
but mp3s play with no problem, and it is still very early days
It could of course be the File itself which is the problem

Homebrew on the wii is going to explode soon!!

True, but that isn't as much fun, besides its true the photo channel can do mp3 and ogg (i think 1.1 breaks one... mp3? ) but it can't do flac not that i have many.
getting the wireless working will also be an improvment, no more streaming as flash.

anyway i'm going to have play with some sample avi files to see what works best. And when I get a stable toolchain have a stab at wireless
