I may be able to stretch to a super special 880gts 512mb but there is no way I can or would stretch to the 9800gtx, especially as most reviews state that it is just a tweaked 8800gts 512mb! (minor tweaks in performance and the inclusion of HD decoding support)

Another one to add to the list

When I finally get round to doing my new build, I think i'll probably go for one.. Its cheaper than I thought it would be, and falls within my budget for the graphics card. And also, I've never ever owned what would be considered to be the newest graphics card available and it would be nice to be able to own one as it'll probably be the only chance I ever get! hehe!
I'll be interested to see how well these overclock tho - whether they are being run at the limit as they are the same chip as an 8800, or whether there is a little more headroom to squeeze a bit more out of it!

Tweaked at best. Wonderlust, if I were you I'd just buy a GTS 512. No reason to believe that the 9800GTX is anything other than a 8800GTS 512 with Tri SLI, bumped up clock speeds, a slightly uprated cooler and a long PCB.
I would've thought even the upper binned G92's on the GTX will be hitting their limit around the same point as the 8800GTS so overclocking wise I don't think it has that much of an upper hand.
Nice to have another card on the market though. Looking forward to new gen tech.

well it has started to have the desired effect Aria are now selling a 8800Gt for under £120 inc vat!
give it a little longer and they will be about the £100 mark, at which they are a total bargain.
