View Full Version : Bluescreens.
Has anyone ever come up with Laptop Wireless cards causing bluescreens? with the Code:
IRQL_not_less_or_equal I think that's the code. I've had this on around four laptops I've repaired now. This laptop I've just done had it, disabled wireless and it's fixed...
Is this because the adapters are failing?

IRQL_not_less_or_equal I think that's the code.
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL is a "regular" in Windows. Just ask Google (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=&q=DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL&sourceid=navclient-ff&rlz=1B3GGLL_en-GBGB359GB359&ie=UTF-8) ("About 72,200 results"). The bits with it are important and can assist in a refined Google search that pins down the suspect driver.
If you can't see the screen, then you need to prevent Windows from starting automatically.
That has come up here several times recently so I won't go over it all again.

I had an old belkin adaptor that did this.
That error can mean anything! As Michael says, its the driver etc that it relates to (if its listed) that can give the biggest clue.
Download a program called (I think) BlueScreenView and it'll let you view any BSODs you've had in the past.. Once you've had a look, post back here and tell us what it says! :)
I've solved the problem now. It was the Wireless card, I guessed it would've been as I've had the exact same error on another laptop. Thanks for the tip with the program though!

Blue screen of death (STOP error) information in dump files. (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html)
Another fine utility from NirSoft.
I use Windows System Control Center (http://www.kls-soft.com/wscc/index.php) to manage the whole bundle along with Sysinternals.

you know you can turn off the feature of the system resetting when BSoD'ing from within windows, its a windows featue
Added after 3 minutes:
sorry, forgot to add;
right click computer
go to properties
go advance system settings
go to system prop
advanced
settings under startup and recovery
untick automatically restart
this is for windows vista and 7, but remove step 3 and 4 for XP

My view is that this should be the first move by anyone who plans to do anything out of the ordinary with a PC.
You want to know what is going wrong when it blows up. It is hard to do this when the errors flash by.
The occassional BSOD is one thing, but when you are in a perpetual loop, automatic restart is a nightmare.
Come to think of it, a nice approach would be if Windows would reboot after one BSOD but would stop if this is immediately followed by another one.
It rather negates the whole point of a BSOD if it flashes by without stopping.
MS fail - or is it that they are embarrassed by them and the Marketing Department told them to make it so people have to make a special effort to see them - can't have lots of random BSODs showing on naive customers screens. it might give the right (sorry I mean wrong) impression
