Last night I was driving along and went round a roundabout with the intention of taking the third right and as I go past the first left which comes off the single carrageway WALLOP . A nice Merc E class thought she didn't have to look or slow down and decided to add her car to the side of mine .

I think she hit me about 40/50mph and from what I can tell from the damage its the front wing , wheel pretty much snapped off , suspension hissing , bent the shaft , front wing , both passenger doors are caved in and wont shut , metal side step snapped off and some bending on the floor. Cant remember but I think the window smashed

The Merc had a busted everything at the front and an airbag on the womans face .
I got out and checked the woman and she was ok .

Lucky the kids wheren't in the car and lucky I was in the Volvo and not my car as I dont think I would have walked away from it .

I recieved a phone call from the insurance company this morning saying shes called them and admitted full responsability for the accident as well and I have a nice courtesy car aswell mid day today but I only have it till tomorrow as its developed a fault with the OBC so shall be exchanged for something else tomorrow. It's a nice 535D and from just half a day I like it very much .

I shall go and get some pictures when I get my items in the next few days .

Very nasty, hope you weren't too shaken up! Glad she admitted full responsibility too, should make things a lot easier for you.

The 5 series is nice ;) get your head round iDrive? My Dad took like a month to get used to it, but took about 10 minutes here :P you wouldn't believe how much they cost to service/repair though, glad you don't have to worry about that

Bonfire weekend some numptie decided he didn't have to look before slamming into my rear (fnarr) and nearly writing off my car. Can't moan since I did the exact same thing to someone else a few years back

What is your other car which wouldn't have come off so well?

Good stuff on being alright though .

I had a guy drive into the side of my car 2 weeks after getting it. Was driving past a sideroad, half the car was past, then WHAM some idiot ragged it out the road straight into me.

His bumper was damaged and scuffed, luckily he hit my alloy and left a few plastic marks which polished out. Got local VW guy to put car on ramp and everything was fine.

Wouldn't have been worth going through insurance to get respray alloy etc, as even though his fault i'd still have to declare myself as making a claim for future renewals. In the insurance companies eyes i'd be more at risk to them for being in a crash and hence increase in premium.

At least you're OK and its good that she claimed responsibility.

My Mum had an accident a few years ago where an off duty cop crashed into her while speeding in his lunch break. He tried to avoid responsibility for ages.

It's Good to hear that your alright,

Atleast the other driver admitted it was their fault not yours, my mother was in a accident back in september which wasnt her fault as the other driver drove into the side of her at a traffic light junction, Took 3 months for him to admit to his insurance company it was his fault but only after the police visited him 3 times.

Glad you're okay dude. It's a scary thought that nobody around here seems to know how to negotiate roundabouts, or even indicate.

Surely if she was approaching a roundabout at that speed and didn't slow down then she was driving without due care, yes?

well buit volovs! Is it a write off?

andyn

Looks pretty intact! Obviously the volvo reputation for being safe isn't misplaced!

Last crash I was in was in a Fiat 126 on the motorway. It involved multiple crash barriers and when we stopped moving the front of the car, basically from the dashboard onwards, was missing. Amazingly we were able to walk out of the car, but my missus' back has never been quite the same.

So is that repairable, or is it worse than it looks?

Skywalker
27-01-11, 17:24
Its worse than it looks , it wont drive straight , driveshaft is hanging on the floor in the last picture and leaking from somewhere , front bumper , front wing , passenger door front and back , side step , bent underneath , tyre and wheel .

Added after 4 minutes:

What is your other car which wouldn't have come off so well?

Sorry missed this , its a little honda civic del sol vti , lucky the battery was dead and I used my mums primera in the morning and the volvo in the evening

Well if you have to get hit at least you were just shaken up and the hits from someone who sees sense, admits fault and is insured.

Glad to hear that everyone walked away from it though :)

Doesn't look too bad the damage in the photos but i believe you that its worse than it looks always is in person as well as if you own it, but you think they will write it off or repair it ?

Skywalker
27-01-11, 18:19
I have no idea , if they write it off then I have to hunt for another as there the only thing that suit us at the moment
