whats the best way to remove a faulty charger port ?
can it be done with a soldering iron ?

some laptops having a charger ported wired in and can be pulled out antd replaced.
This is the case with Lenovo T400 and X100e and my old T60s

If your uncomftBle doing it I'm sure a local pc repair store of maybe even aria could do it
One I worked on had the Jack on a board along with the power button and usb port. Whole unit is only £20. Relief for me, no soldering. Although most shops charge around £50 for this service :)
