Hello
Pienaar goes to Spurs.
Darren Bent goes to Villa
Babel goes to Hoffenheim, bundesliga team.

Good move for piennar , he's a clever player, although may find it tough to get in 1st team right away ......
I think they want another option upfront with champions league coming back around, plus with the quality of crosses Spurs have i think he'll do more.

18-01-11, 21:35
Yeah I think they must have the best attacking midfield in the premiership now when on form, could spring another few champions league shocks too !

So Liverpool sell one of their most talented players?
Well done them. Hope he does well, ruined by a club who has a habit of stunting players' progress.
I think they would need both Van Der Vaart and Bale to be on top form and score to beat AC Milan.
Pienaar could play too with Vander Vaart behind Crouch.
Should be interesting to watch.
Bent going to Villa is Meh as he's always hot and cold and Villa are abysmal really.

Bent has scored wherever he has been, he's a good signing for any of the clubs not in the euro places, although the price tag is hefty. He'll have good service from the Villa wingers.
Spurs should progress. Ibrahimovic has been Milan's main man this year. If he plays to form in the knockout stages, he'll go quiet and Spurs have enough to get through. I'd be surprised if Ibrahimovic turns up. Pato and Robinho are the only other two to provide a goal threat for Milan this year. Spurs have had VDV, Bale, Pav, Crouchy and Defoe i'm sure will come to goal scoring form.
Added to that, Milan haven't been that great against the stronger sides in Serie A, i'm gonna put money on Spurs. They have big game players, Milan's big players go missing.

are you serious?? takes more than just raw talent to be a good footballer, babel doesnt have the intelligence or consistency to be as good as his rarely shown ability suggests.

-Demba Ba to West Ham is a done deal on a 6 month temp contract and the option for a permanent (He failed his medical at stoke)
-John Carew to Stoke on loan until the end of the season is a done deal
-We're looking to take Joe Cole on loan. I know, not that much chance of it happening but contact was made with the player AFAIK.
fire sale at liverpool to fund the new ground?
should be nice having a 75k all seater in the championship :|
Can't remember transfer window being this 'lively' in a while.
No doubt deadline day will be boring as ever though.

Ha lol, Carew and Agbonlahor are the worst strikers in the premiership.
Theres Championship forwards that put them to shame.
Carew to stoke so a few more assists for rory delap then :chairfall:
The beautiful game at its best

-Blackpool reject £4m bid from Liverpool for Charlie Adam.
They'll bid higher, and I'd put money on him being a Liverpool player before long.
Blackpool don't want to be selling any one really.
They have a real chance of staying up.
AaronWHUFC
21-01-11, 20:48
When they're offering up to £10m for a player that'll be available on a free in the summer, I'm certain they'll bite.
Yeah fair enough.
I think it'll be quite a lot of points to stay up this season.
AaronWHUFC
21-01-11, 20:58
I can still see Blackpool going down though! City to win the league too. Really close, love it!
I think wolves will drop for sure.
AaronWHUFC
21-01-11, 21:04
Not sure myself mate. Wolves have been playing some good football and getting better. Making me sweat because we haven't stepped up at all.
They've got Adam Hamill now aswell.
Well three need to go.
It'll be last day stuff for someone I think.
Wigan and wolves and one other I feel.
Maybe West Ham after years of circling?
with regard to bent. there was a surprising stat on motd lastnight. in 5 years (I think it was 5) bent has played a about 5-10 more games 182 in total iirc Vs. rooney & drogba but scored the same amount of goals 82. not to shoddy I would have thought.
speaking of villa, good game against city who i thought were crap - very one dimensional and bereathed of any ideas. i think if they carry on like this and lose the derby then their chance has gone. we had a good result against wigan - who really we would expect to beat at home, the only disappointing thing was the score line as should have been a few more but fair play to al-habsi as pulled of some great saves.
everton were bit fortunate, west ham had a great game and perhaps deserved more. if they keep playing like that for the rest of the season, I can see them being clear of the drop zone.
I think we'll see Villa and Liverpool start to climb the table as both played better than they have for a while, Liverpool actually went forward as a team instead of leaving Torres on his own, Villa defended well and yeah City weren't great, no plan B as they said on MOTD.
Man U turned it on though.
West Ham played very well, i think Wayne Bridge's old head is helping the defence, Green needs to go IMO, he's too hot and cold, he'll pull out some ace saves but isn't consistent enough.
Parker and Spector played well.
Silly red card but rules are rules.

Agreed that the rule is silly. And guess what? We have no recognised strikers fit for the Semi final second leg against Brum on wednesday.
Either we buy a striker or we rely on our Academy products. Don't get me wrong, Nouble and Hines aren't bad, but come on.
Looks like Demba Ba is a West Ham player. Just got to get it sorted before Wednesday.
we seem to have overcome our blip, just need a new central defender as can't see vamarlean back anytime soon - would like to (if rumour is believed) see young cahill from bolton - maybe available as bolton have just signed wheater from ' boro.
Having been to both Liverpool - Blackpool games this season I can honestly say their support is the best in the league this season. Add in how entertaining Holloway is and I feel pretty sorry for him and the fans in the situation with Adams.
They are in a dreadful catch 22 at the mo. No one is going to offer top dollar for a player with only half a good season in the Prem who you can get for nothing soon, even signing a pre-contract now. On the other hand £4 million is not going to make up for the very real chance that loosing him could be the difference between Premier League and Championship football next year.
Personally I think he is doing the right thing, risk the bosman to force either more cash or the delayed exit. Unfortunately there is the possibility that the player could drop out of form if he feels the manager isn't helping him achieve what he wants.

you're right about holloway, some of his quotes are top dollar. but then he has always been quality and vfm - sort of makes cantona seem sort of normal. hope that they don't go down as the prem would be a poorer and boring place without him.
I think Blackpool will be fine.
i cant see bpool going down either, they are their own worst enemy tho as they like to play football (strange as it sounds) and they need to try parking the bus in front of the goal from time to time.
Yeah West Brom suffered from the same thing for years really, trying to play football with a mediocre squad.
Still it beats sitting 11 men in front of the goal and losing anyway.

the thing with West Brom is that they played some great football, until the final third, but couldnt score in a brothel.
They actually suffer the same problem now to some degree, Blackpool, on the other hand seem able to put some of their chances away, this should enable them to remain safe.
They probably will anyway, as there are worse sides than them.

Robbie Keane signs for West Ham on loan until the end of the season. There's a clause where we have to buy him if we stay up.
So, our attackers now:
Demba Ba, Robbie Keane, Carlton Cole, Victor Obinna, Freddy Piquionne.
:D
YEah Robbie Keane is alright for tap ins.
Apart form that i think your other strikers are better tbh.

One thing he does bring is experience. He knows where the goal is and he's in the right position at the right time. If anything, it adds another dimension and more options for Grant.
Personally i don't think he has anything to contribute anymore, he hasn't been any good for a few years, hence the amount of clubs he's been back and forward to.
He's good once he gets a run of games going, unfortunately he never seems to get it no matter which club he goes to, it'll probably be the same at West Ham.

he was absolutely rubbish at celtic, which was quite enjoyable for us Rangers fans :D
also quite glad to see David Healy in the squad for Rangers too hopefully he will bring more goals than Nikica Jelavic. he doesnt seem to be doing to well at all at the moment especially today in the cup game against Motherwell. although he did set up a cracking goal.

Funny story about Lafferty and Healy...
Healy and Lafferty were in a nightclub in Belfast, where a mate I worked on the door with was working on the door and they were both out with their other halves. My mate asked Lafferty could he get a picture - Lafferty said yes and my mate then threw his arm round Lafferty's missus and gave Lafferty the camera. Apparently Healy was p***ing himself laughing, Lafferty was impressed too!
Needless to say, the mate was a Celtic fan.
Gave us all a good chuckle. :)

You know if a striker struggles to score in Scotland that his career is over. Samaras proves how easy it is if you are at one of the big 2, the guy couldn't hit himself in the premier league let alone the goal.
The most interesting development today will be Torres of course, whether he goes and who they replace him with. Anelka + £40 million is the latest.
Sergio Aguero has been linked with Spurs (who hasn't). I think he would be a good signing for any prem team. I have a feeling Liverpool are also linked with him, but then again, if Torres is going they will be linked with everyone too.
nico and cash wouldnt be a bad deal if we had a proven goal scorer coming in as well but i cant see us paying his wage demands tbh.
Aguero to Liverpool would be the most sensible. Him and Torres at Athletico was fatal to the opposition most of the time.
Newcastle have turned down 30 mil for Andy Carroll from Liverpool according to talksport !
Would be good to see Torres stay at liverpool, as he's finally got a strike partner.
But i've just got a feeling he's going to go.
Villa have said that they've had no bids for ashley young and that he's not for sale. I hope this is true being a villa fan myself :)
Torres' transfer to Chelsea has broken down, as John Terry couldn't agree personal terms with Torres' wife!! :D
Please stay Andy Carroll :(
Andy Carrol is a decent enough striker but i think he's a bit overhyped and wayyy overpriced atm.
Next year if he continues to be able to score as freely then awesome, great for english football too.
£35 million is a lot really, not sure he's in the same category as Torres.
Added after 5 minutes:
Torres is going to Chelsea just not announced yet.
He is massively overpriced but if it meant taking £35m now and getting relegated or turning down the money, then I know which I would choose. Also, reports saying that the £35m bid has been rejected now...
Newcastle will stay up without him i reckon.

Sky Sports News.
EDIT: http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/reds-agree-carroll-fee
well that does kinda suggest that Torres is on the way out - as Kenny said, no player is bigger than the club and well, let's face it - they've just made a net profit of 15million if the figure touted about for what they've sold Nando for is true.
One heck of a gamble though
So much for 'Im Newcastle for life' then after signing a new contract a couple of weeks ago...

Its good to see that Charlie Adam is doing well for himself in the Premier League after leaving Rangers and the SPL. you dont see many players do well after leaving the likes of the Old Firm. Hes worth every penny.
I think once once Adams and Carrol gel with the rest of the team and then maybe a decent defender or two and another midfielder in the summer then Liverpool will be right back in it next season.
this window always costs over the odds, blackpool have done well for a player with only 6 months left on his deal :|
tbh im not convinced its all that great for us as i think carol is way overpriced and lacks the exp. i hope im proved wrong tho as he does give us a new target man that we have lacked since crouch went and the big man and a little en has been the liverpool way untill the past couple of gaffas.

HA ha, football has gone mad. Carroll has potential, but this time last year he had scored three championship goals, now he is the 8th most expensive player of all time !
That video had me crying with laughter!
Clearly Carroll has potential, but £35m, for a relatively unproven striker? Suarez seems like a good buy though, and worth a punt; I would of been less shocked if the transfer fees for those two were reversed.
As for Newcastle, they seem to of written off this season again, I hope for the sake of their fans that they get some decent spending power in the summer, but with Ashley in charge, I wont hold my breath.
Yeah Bent was a bargain at £24 million.
I was expecting to hear that Man City had offered £100 million for Rooney.
Yeah Newcastle should stay up but of course Mike fatty fat fat Ashley won't spend, money in his pocket.
i was shocked ashly didnt snatch our hand off when we first made the offer for carrol, it took him putting in a request for it to happen.
i was shocked ashly didnt snatch our hand off when we first made the offer for carrol, it took him putting in a request for it to happen.
I think if Ashley had done that then maybe he would be able to keep signing on bonuses from when he signed on last year, possibly with him putting in a request he has to repay any signing on bonus he got before?
I think Newcastle fans should lay off Ashley a bit, its not as if potential buyers are lining the streets with a fat cheque in their hands. The guy has poured his own fortune into the club, not like these conglomerates that own other big clubs who refinance debts to get what they want.
Didn't he take a loan out straightaway as the rest do though against what he paid.
Also he has no interest football and only bought newcastle as they were going cheap and wanted to turn a profit.
Alan Shearer formed a group to buy back newcastle for what Ashley paid and then a bit more but noooo his royal fatness wanted double what he paid and it fell through.
He's only held onto the club as he'll lose money.

I will just clear up the little bit that I have highlighted there.
He was forced out!
He went to the club and asked for a wage increase, stating that he did not want to leave. This was refused and he was told to put a transfer request in by Llambias/Pardew, reason being, Ashley wanted the money and by getting a written transfer request off Carroll it absorbs all the blame from the *)*%£$^& joke of an owner we have and lays it squarely at Carroll's feet.
Now I for one believe Carroll's story of things way more than anything Ashley/Llambias/Pardew can come up with.
The whole scenario stinks to high heaven and I highly dount the £35m+ will be invested back into the club in the summer either, despite Ashley's 'assurances'(how many times has he giiven assurances?)
Best of luck to Andy Carroll, he will go on and become one of the all time English greats, I am sure of that, just a sad shame it wont be at his hometown club that he never wanted to leave in the first place.
Bry.
i thought carrol signed a big money deal in the summer just gone, so why would he now want to try and get more money?
either way the facts are the first offer was turned down only for him to hand in a request and the second offer got accepted. if it took him handing in the request to start some clauses in his contract for the club to sell him im sure he has been compansated by liverpool for his loss. another fact is if he didnt want to leave he would not of signed a deal with liverpool, just because the club said yes doesnt mean that the player has to go.
Carroll has gone to a more successful club and Newcastle have at least double what he's worth.
Win win as fair as it goes.

The 'big money' deal was for 20k/week

Your facts are incorrect!
£30m bid rejected
£35m bid submitted and was being discussed between Ashley/Llambias and Pardew
Carroll spoke to Pardew and said he didnt want to leave, asked for a review on his deal(pay rise), stating again that he wanted to stay.
Pardew spoke to Ashley/Llambias about this and the request was denied, Carroll then told by Llambias that if he wanted to go he would have to submit a written transfer request, thus removing all blame from Ashley/Llambias.
Carroll did this and it all played into Ashley's hands, he got the money he wanted and appeared squeaky clean in the whole deal.
Sadly neither Ashley, Llambias or Pardew are are clean after all of this.
I agree about him not having to sign if he does not want to, however if a player does that when a club/owner clearly wants the money then it would only cause more problems than it is worth tbh.
Good luck to Andy, hopefully he shows everyone what he is capable of in the coming years.

Carroll has said himself today that when he heard about the interest from Liverpool it was too good to pass up. Doesn't sound much like a player that was 'forced out' to me
Why should he be given another new contract even if he did ask for one? He only signed a 5 year deal in October while saying how much he loved the club and wanted to stay there. I cant stand Mike Ashley myself but I wouldn't think Carroll is being too honest about being forced out...
Ashley wanted the money, thats why he refused to entertain a new deal for Carroll.
He was then told to submit a transfer request thus absolving all blame from the owner etc.
That is what forced him into a corner.
Texts he sent to Steve Wraith, editor of fanzine Toon Talk(his good mate)
Text One: 'They have kind of said we don't want u but want me to say I wanna go. And I said I don't wanna go.'
Text Two: 'I don't know mate. Gutted tho.' (In reply to question: 'what's happening?')
Text Three: 'They said they wanted the money'
Text Four: 'Gutted to be leaving but I was kind of pushed out the door'
Text Five: 'Just what I've just said really. Gutted to be leaving my home club but I was practically told to go. Don't want to leave. that's why I signed 5 year deal.'

he's a great prospect and hopefully he can progress at liverpool and become a great player.
for 35M i really hope so lol
Where's he going to live now?
As I doubt Nolan still wants him at his house.
sorry bry but which of my facts are wrong?
1st bid rejected.
transfer requested submitted.
2nd bid accepted.
what else happened inbetween is neither here nor there as other than those involved we wont ever know the real truth, only what each party wants us to think.
im not having a pop you know, im not that happy coming out of this window either as we have lost a world beating goal scorer and replaced him with 2 over priced prospects. i feel for the magpie fans as your in the position we was under hicks and gillet as they only saw the bottom line too, i just hope you dont have to go to the brink of administration to get rid of him :|

its part of his probation so i think he has to.

Good point! Wasn't that part of his bail conditions?

I've seen all that but today he was saying that when he heard about Liverpool interest it was too good to turn down which doesn't sound much like he was 'forced out' to me? As much as I hate Ashley and what he has done to the club, some of this seems a bit odd to me.
Anyhow, £35m is a great deal for us but its a shame it came at the wrong time when we didn't have time to try and replace him.

I dont blame Andy at all, the way he was treat is dire and I wish him all the best, he will always be a geordie in my eyes.
Bry.
He asked for more money despite signing a new contract in October, he did this because a £30m bid was turned down, he thought he had more bargaining power.
He didnt have to hand in a transfer request, he could of agreed to go if Newcastle agreed terms, there doesnt have to be a transfer request at all.
Do you not think it strange that the texts are to a supporters group, clearly he wants to make himself look as good as he can
He jumped ship at the first chance he got by the sounds of it. Such a shame considering all the stuff he was saying about how he wanted to follow in Shearer's footsteps and be the next hero for us :(

I believe that rather than "Liverpool was too good to turn down"
It was actually "I don't want to leave Newcastle but if I have to then Liverpool is where I want to go" or something close to that.
The second bid was put in and over that time no one knew whether it had been accepted or reject (reports of both from various places). Next thing you hear is that he has put in a transfer request.
Now I don't know anything about asking for a better contract but I imagine that would be a result of his agent rather than him.
I think Harry Redknapp hit the nail on the head when he was interviewed on Monday night saying something like (I can't remember the exact wording) "I had to laugh at Newcastle, they they were desperate to cash in, they had to get him to put a transfer request in so they could let him go"
I think Newcastle are more than happy with their money. It's wait and see time as to whether they spend it in the summer.
As for Liverpool, I think it's a case of 2 strikers for the price of 1. OK one is young with 6 months of premier league experience but I do believe he is Englands next Alan Shearer and have though so all season. Suarez is undoubtably quality but we won't know if he can deal with the premier league until he starts playing. I think he'll either be a Tevez or a Kalou. I hope he is a Tevez.
Harry Redknapp is a **** I cant stand the bloke. Its got nothing to do with him, he is just bitter because Carroll has gone to Liverpool and not Spurs

lol, that hardly discredits what I said though. I happen to like him, he talks his mind.

Redknapp wasn't even looking at Carroll though, he was looking at Forlan, Aguero and Fabiano.
Oh, and he made a last minute attempt for Charlie Adam.
I rate Harry Redknapp.. considering a few years ago Tottenham were in a relegation battle, look at them now!
Yeah didn't he win the FA Cup with Portsmouth?
Plus if he got Vander vaart and pienaar on the cheap i doubt he would pay crazy money for a long haired chav.
I'm not a massive football fan but its clear theres a few on here lacking in actual knowledge.

They did bid for Carroll. They also bidded £30m for a small Argentinian bloke who goes by the name of Sergio Aguero.

Who's the bigger idiot? You'd be a huge idiot to turn down £35 m for a player that's got 6 months prem experience, 2 common assualt charges and someone who's had a lot of injuries at such a young age. Not to mention the fact he likes a punch up with his own team mates.

he is now the most expensive british player he will be the next alan shearer and he was the only thing keeping the team together selling like that with such a short time to react to buy another striker ???
mike ashley sold NUFC down the river for the rest of the season we have 3 strikers at the moment as shola is out injured and hes not exactly world class

I'm not saying Mike Ashley's not a ****, but £35m for an unproven striker is a good deal for Newcastle FC. Regardless of whether you should have sold him, your number one priority this window should have been finding a stiker. Ameobi is too inconsistent, Ranger is not the finished article by a long shot and Carroll was suffering from an injury.

i agree but ashley doesn't give a penny out and he claims this 35mil will all be spent on transfers in the summer i bet it wont !!!
Oh yes the "we have the money in the bank to spend" speech :(
David Gill gives it to the Man United fans before every transfer window now and we buy nothing much at all, the Ronaldo money has been "in the bank" for a while now! Interest should be piling up nicely

He did bid for Carroll twice but both were rejected. He just gets involved with things that have nothing to do with him and has the cheek to moan about teams going after Bale when he was trying to do the same to Carroll and the pathetic offer he put in for P. Neville, he is a clown.
As for Carroll, what choice did Ashley have if he wanted to go? Pointless keeping an unhappy player when his performances could drop and so would his value. Its just the poor timing of the deal which has really messed us up. I dont believe that all the money will be made available in the summer even if we do stay up, which looks unlikely after last nights performance :(

The toon accepted the offer then rejected it then told carroll to ask for a transfer request.
do you think carroll felt wanted after that?

He asked for permission to speak to Liverpool unless they offered him a pay rise. They said to put it on paper.
Carroll wanted to leave.

Carroll has said himself that when he heard about the interest from Liverpool it was too good to turn down. He wanted a pay rise, we said it would be sorted in the summer but that was not good enough for him, as Aaron_H said above.
£35m is still great business by us though IF it is made available to spend in the summer
We should still have had another striker lined up even before this happened though as we knew Carroll was out for a month or more and there was no cover. And the bid for N'Zogbia was a complete joke
Just to ask, did Man Utd even buy/sell anyone this window? The always seem to be the most inactive when it comes to new signing.
I'm not complaining, they have a great squad anyways, especially since Hernandez joined. He is probably one of the best signings the past few years :)

Bought a sub goalie, Anders Lingaard (sp?)
Don't blame Utd for being inactive with the crazy prices this Windows ....... however I suspect it is more to do with interest repayments than 'value' alone

why did we accept then reject the bid then? then force carroll to hand in his transfer request? its just annoying that ashley is like yeh we did everything we could to keep him??
no you didnt you just wanted to make it look like you didnt want the cash and take none of the blame for him leaving
I hate Ashley as much as you mate but I dont think Carroll is all squeaky clean in this, especially after hearing him saying that when he heard about Liverpool being interested in him it was too good to turn down.
Still, we are going down this season if they play like they did against Fulham on Wednesday. We've got nothing up front and the whole team just looked awful :(
man utd bought the goalie and released a few reserve players the money still in the bank for the big signings !!!!

i know he aint squeaky clean but he is young he is going to be the next big striker for england and we had him and wont have anyone like him for a while even with 35mil we wont be getting anyone of his quality up front for a bit
we were awful against Fulham and i do think its because he left and all the players had 2 watch ashley sit and count his notes the fat bastard
Its not the end of the world, move on guys.
My only wish is that Andy sees out his contract at Liverpool and moves on a free back to the Toon, he will still only be 27 and should be at his best right around then :)
/wishful thinking I know but we can live in hope ;)

That's pathetic. Wishing someone dead is sick.
Sort yourself out, football's a passionate thing for everyone but there's no place for that
He wouldnt come back if he thought he wasnt wanted here. Or if he chose to leave instead of being forced I wouldnt want him back anyway. Guess we will never find out the truth though.
Kenny Daglish, is bemoaning Torres for requesting a transfer only a few days before the end of the window, a bit like double standards as he hasnt said anything about his disappointment in Carroll who put his request in even later ;)
Newcastle have got excellent value for a relatively unproven striker - its only been 1.5 seasons really.
Of course, if it works out, then Liverpool will say they got excellent value too - its almost win winwin, the only people who have potential to lose out is Liverpool, who may not get the goals they think Carroll should be delivering, but paired with Suarez he should do ok.
My concern is for Newcastle, although its only fleeting - as a Darlo fan I know only one team play in black and white in the North East ;)
Newcastle have said they made some bids for players but it was too late, that was always going to be the case when you dont make a move until the player generating the cash has signed for the other team. I do hope they get the funds to invest in the summer, but I have my doubts about how much of that will actually be made available.
Tbh we should have had a striker lined up even before Carroll left. He is out for a month or so anyway so we needed more cover. I dont think all of the money will be made available in the summer, providing we stay up. I read an article earlier about the finances of the club and we are still suffering from the way it was left by Freddy Shepherd and the massive loss we made when we got relegated. In one way Ashley is doing a good thing as we could easily have ended up like Portsmouth...

Im a Darlo fan, i know how it is to be mis-managed, however the manner in how he has interacted with the fans has been his downfall, he has got it wrong on so many levels.
And how he has dealt with managers hasnt exactly been awe inspiring either ;)
This Newcastle V Arsenal game could end up in double figures...
Looks like the £35m is going to be needed to cover what we lose when we get relegated :(

Who's injured now? I turned the game off after the second goal no point in watching it after that. You can see the confidence has drained out of the team since Carroll has left. Now starts the slide down the table same as 2 years ago...

Why the hell did I have to turn it off at 2-0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the best comebacks by any team in premiership history tbh :D
Well played lads, keep it up.

Just had goosebumps watching that comeback on MOTD. The players and crowds reaction was fantastic to see. Hopefully we can carry the confidence into the next game.

Deserves to be given a chance for England I think but probably wont because of his reputation. Mike Williamson was shocking to day though, we need Steve Taylor back soon.
