anything Netgear. Stear clear of Belkin at all costs :)

currently have 2 Netgears, always run smoothly, easily connects up to 8 computers, thats about the most we've had on the network all runs fast and no bottlenecks. Never had any problems with them and always have connected straight up when i've turned them on.

DLink i also hears is pretty good but no experience with them.

D-Link fanboy here. But TBH netgear are good as well. Some people have used the cheaper TP-Link routers and found them to be OK.

I got a DIR-615 from Virgin & it's really really bad for dropping connection, looking at getting a Netgear WNR3500l soon though.

Probably just the model I got free from Virgin that is bad though.

My mate just got the Virgin Superhub thingy installed, he says it is the worst thing he has ever done.

Virgin Media connection software anyone?

Would always prefer buying the stuff myself, then i know exactly whats on it and none of thier dodgy firmware :p

Aye I always used to buy my own but they offered a wireless N router for free, being Scottish free is irresistible.

Not really in my experience... I've got a boxful of Homehubs and other routers here - they often sell for next to nothing.

The V1 (White or rarer, Black and tall) can be flashed with original factory firmware to unlock it for any ISP - in such a state it's a quite good router imo *ducks to avoid brick* The newer V2s (Black, short) are afaik pretty much unlock-able but if you're with BT they're not at all bad (again my opinion)

If you want to give a V2 a go I'll send you one for the price of postage :)

I'm currently using a BT Business Hub (2Wire) - also flash-able and something of a beast, people have reported achieving insane (and illegal, so therefore in no way endorsed by me :cop: ) Wi-Fi signal strength with over a 1KM line of sight range!.

Started using the Billion Bipac 5200 ADSL routers at work - cheap and just work perfectly.

Flash it with http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/index

Virgin firmware was poo. Mine worked fine after flashing dd-wrt and also allowed me to use it as a wireless repeater bridge.

...then i mixed up my power cable with a dlink switch i had and fried it. (what's that smell?) :(

p.s. I prefer dlink although they tend to be a bit more expensive in the upper range. I've had a dir 655 for 2 years now i think. Pretty solid. I'd like a dual band next.
