Pencil mods = NASTY.

They tend to only be temporary too, though i haven't done any of these type of mods i might consider it if i was going for some hardcore overclocking but it would have to be "proper" mods, ie soldered ones with variable resistors.

Thats why I used the thread tittle!

personaly I am more than happy with my q6600 @ 3Ghz with no voltage changes required.

If I am doing a bit of video conversion then I kick in a 400x8 giving me 3.2Ghz but I have to up the voltage so I don't like doing it too often.

I did get it to about 366x9 but for me it was getting to hot.

does anyone remember unlocking the multipler on athlon XP palomino cores ? That was some tricky stuff lol

haha yep I did that mod, the fiqure of 8 trick with some fusewire :lol:

My pencil Athlon xp mod failed, so i rubbed it off and left it lol.

i did one on my p5nesli but they wear off after about 3 or 4 weeks, did it a couple of times but then gave up on it.

Pencil mods you are supposed to seal them with something after doing them, tape / nail varnish etc. Either way its a real cowboy way of volt modding and imho is only a temporary mod to see if its worth going the whole hog and soldering a potentiometer on to do it properly.

My 680i is pencil modded, still won't let me get past 3.6ghz STABLE
