Hi
My Turbine Power 550w PSU has died.
Just wont come on. I checked all the usuual stuff like fuse etc and its all ok but the PSU wont come on at all and there was white powder underneath it.
So I need a new one and I presume this one wasnt powerful enough and thats why it died.
Basically if you look at my system specs can you suggest a PSU. Additional info is 5 case fans.
Any info would be welcome please.
Thanks.
Just go for a decent, 600+ watt psu. Spend about 50-60 quid and you'll be ok
My suggestions include the Corsair VX 450W, Corsair VX 550W and OCZ StealthXstream 600W. If you want a modular unit, the Corsair HX 520W

thanks for the suggestions but i as my psu was 550w i cannot understand why you suggested some that are lower than that?
There are 550watt psus and there are 550watt psus, the "cheap nasty" 550watt psus supply a max of 550watts for maybe a few seconds sometimes quoted as 550watts peak, the better branded psu's can supply 550watts all day.
Check the blurb on your psu. Example below, removed from a dead pc at work, qtec AKA time bombs. Note the max and peak rating for the power rails, iirc it works out at a "peak" of 550watts.

Ok.
I am looking at the Tagan 700w BZ piperock series or the Coolermaster Realpower 700w but I am not sure from the photos if all my cables will plug in.
I have 2xSata 2xIDE 1xFloppy 1xDVD 1xCDRW 1xGPU which has 2 connections for power and 5xFans which are sort of plugged in where ever.
Would either be suitable?
Thanks

The dvd and cd are sata?
And are the fans on an adaptor?

Adapter ???
Unsure.
I think some are direct in the PSU whilst others are connected via additional connections on other cables that supply the cdrw and dvd etc.
Your system won't need a 700W unit. The reason why your Turbine Power PSU failed was because it couldn't handle the load of your PSU even though it probably needed about 375W at most.
The Tagan BZ is a nice PSU though and would last you a number of years and a number of upgrades. All PSU's of this calibre come with plenty of 4 pin molex leads (for fans, IDE HDD's, Optical Drives), PCI-E 6pin cables (for graphics card) and plenty of SATA cables.
The Tagan PSUs are bulletproof - my 460W tagan powered 2x2.8GHz Opterons, 7950GX2, 2 Optical Drives, 3 hard disks - some high power consumption stuff!
In only upgraded after 3 years because of some questionable voltages on occasion.
Buy a Tagan - you can't go wrong!
