So it seems there is two versions BX80569Q9450A and BX80569Q9450 (without the A at the end) I have read that one is OEM and one is Retail.

Aria should hopefully sell the OEM aswell with a seen price now ......

Here are some prices that i have found that are confusing tho
COMPETITOR LINK (without A costs more)

COMPETITOR LINK (without A costs £205)

COMPETITOR LINK (without A costs more)

COMPETITOR LINK (without A costs £208)

COMPETITOR LINK (without A costs £204)

Obviously the best deal is the bottom one but retail????......

UPDATE: A is retail, lambda link is OEM they have it as the same price as Aria for retail, which should mean Aria can `now` hopefully price OEM like alot of other websites.....

(If a moderator is going to kill this post because of better prices just delete the link info, as to A or not to A is needed info.....)

Edit by mac: - How many competitor links?? You might want to check out the rules ;) http://forums.aria.co.uk/faq.php

yeah i thought so but hey at least they know what the competitor is doing now.... All the modders want OEM because all you can do with a stock fan is see how far you can kick it.....:P

I don't know if it is still the case but when I was shopping for my cellery 300a the reatils were rumored to be better as they came from the centre of the wafer,

BTW my 300a is still running at 450, after all these years, not here though I sold it on and know where it went

Not sure about then but at least now, they all come off the same production line. Many buy OEM CPU's and get silly high clocks out of them. Although nowadays, not so many people do because the OEM prices tend to be very similar to Retail prices. Personally if it's a matter of a few pounds, I'd just get the retail for the sake of 3 years warranty and a sticker.

intel sell the runt of their batches off as oem and their retail chips tend to clock better, not sure about amd tho.

Mul.

I'm not so sure whether that's really true. A number of OEM chips that I've owned have turned out to be golden chips. Examples include my Pentium 4 SL6WK Northwood, E6300 L629B, Athlon 64 3700+ KAB2E (I've had a few, weeks 0540 and 0632) 3.0GHz'er and an Opteron 165 CCBBE 0610 (another 3.0GHz'er). Regardless, I'd say it's luck of the draw at best, be it OEM or Retail. :)

Though I'd definitely agree that it's worth getting a retail anyway as the difference between OEM and Retail is small anyway and that price difference will get you a longer warranty as well. Even if one doesn't keep a chip as long, the difference could even be recovered on resale anyway.

Definitely not sure about that one - that would mean that Intels biggest customers (HP, DELL, Etc.,) get inferior chips - and I don't think they'd like that...

Any idea when Aria is getting the Q9450 in stock?

held back by intel, but due to be re-released 17th March so i would presume Aria should be getting some next week sometime.

Ooh, I hope so. Another week I can wait, I guess, but not another month (I've seen some sites saying it won't be available till end April).

Any official date that can be given by Aria staff? I've asked a question on hte Q9450 page (twice actually!) but still not had a reply, hence why I'm now here.

yeah, a couple of other retails who show the expected date are showing them as being due in on the 19th march :)

Some guy who pre-ordered from Overclockers has now been told they won't get it until the end of the month. The general trend seems to show that they may have been delayed again, possibly in to April. If they ain't out next week I'm not sure if I can wait any longer as I haven't upgraded for 3 years and I'll I'm waiting on is the CPU now, as all my other stuff has arrived

Likewise - Im still running a rig from 2003 as my main home PC, and I'm waiting for the Q9450 as well. I figure if I've waited this long then a couple more weeks wont hurt. But I did consider buying something like an E2140 to see me through till they were released, but ended up just thinking it was a waste of money for the sake of a few extra days...!

I'm on a Pentium 4 3Ghz with a 6800GT. It's held up pretty good and can run Source based games but struggles with Crysis and Stalker on low to medium settings and load times for all modern games are just crazy - hence why I hated waiting :P

I COULD install XP again, but I can't be arsed. Once I've got my new stuff I'll be happy to tinker initially but nowadays when I want to use my computer I just want to use it, not tinker with it and eventually use it :P

Well i`ve found a UK site that has 10 OEM`s in stock but selling for £270 obviously the distributors are laughing at the moment some sites like Aria are getting told none in stock while others who pay more are told suddenly they have some to sell ....

If Aria want to PM me to see which sites you can....

Found one has tons of OEM ones for £258...In stock Today....

Mul.
01-04-08, 16:19
They're trickling in that's for sure. Give it a couple of weeks for the price gouging to settle. Should settle around the £200-220 mark I would've thought

efex
01-04-08, 20:18
Oh yeah there`s loads of sites offering them for £210-£215 while not having any
I`ve lost count of how many sites i`ve registered with to get an email when in stock
it`s like a bit of a race now which one will be first to say `in stock at £210-£215`
But it does seem distributors are cashing in while they can...

So while i wait i`ll buy a Dell 2408WFP instead.

PS. I`ve now noticed five sites that have the OEM version, not sure if Aria is bothering
to sell them but they all say they have a nice supply of OEM Q9450 (just seen you do but
date still says 1st April....)

Hey guys, new to the forums first post :).

Well, I have brought 1/2 my PC from Aria and love the service, first class. I have had my system complete sitting in my room for a month nearly now minus the motherboard/cpu/cooler.

I purchases an ASUS Rampage x48 and ultra 120 extreme today so now just need the CPU. At least I can build the majority of the PC in the next day or two tho. I was set on the retail version at first but since I have a seperate cooler and heatdopoe the only advantage of the retail is stickers/morwe warranty but I doubt I will be returning it.

I want to push it to 3.6ghz then I will be happy, I was tempted by the e8500 but then was convinced quad core is the way to go so..

I hope this gets in stock soon, £200 is a fantastic price, most places that have it are over charging hugely, I would rather hold out and buy it from here.

The guy who is buying the DELL 2408, I have that I brought it 3 weeks ago, using it at the moment a long with new sound system I got too, might as wlel make use of some of my new purchases :). Its awesome!.

efex

Got the Dell 2408WFP but won`t be using it till tomorrow:sad:

It`s strange in this situation that this CPU is in, i would thought that Aria would have more power to get this CPU by now, even in limited stock but so far i think Aria hasn`t sold one yet? but i`ve seen increasingly even side street computer sites have had limited stock already (20 or so) and have sold them.... is it because Aria has a set lower stock limit of say 100 and the distrubutors cannot meet that or that their just still waiting for any???

Yeah, I just ordered one :D:D:D:D:D. I must of looked at the right time, I didn't get an email telling me though, what a superb price.

Q9550 is pointless in my opinion for price/performance. Just overclock your Q9450 to faster than a Q9550 anyway, I intend to push it to 3.2ghz without a thought, then maybe 3.4/3.6 which is better than a £1000 CPU in clock speed.

£206 sounds like what the price of the Q9450 should be when you take the bulk price figure of $316, convert to pounds, add VAT and the retailer's profit margin.

Unfortunately i`ve had to buy the OEM Q9450 from somewhere else, i thought Aria would be able to get hold of them but obviously they were out of reach like most other internet shops. But strangely the place i got it from had them in stock yesterday and are still in stock today (£230 inc VAT) I know in a few weeks they will be at £200-odd but i`ve had the rest of the setup in boxes for 2 months and could not be bothered to wait any longer.
