View Full Version : Video Split software? fast, easy to use?
is there any fast and easy to use video splitting software?
i just got a Sony blu-ray player with USB port, but just found out that Sony only supports FAT32 file format. so to play 1080p films, i'll most likely need to split a 8GB MKV file into 4GB slices.
is there any video file split software that don't require to encode the whole video again? and pretty easy to use (eg. set split point or set desired size, then press Go)

You cant really just split a video file, you need to re-encode it.
Here is an answer from an old 'friend' http://www.videoforums.co.uk/adobe-premiere-premiere-elements-after-effects/26061-split-20-minute-video-half-without-re-rendering.html

lol..
Lets say, me and the owner has our disagreements.
Been searching. And have successfully split files without re-encode.
It relays on Muxing. So video encode wont be changed, but the file will be split into audio and video file, then re-combine into smaller files.
Mkv2vob is the tool I'm using now. Designed for creating media files for PS3, which is essentially same player software as my Sony bluray player.
There are other freeware tools such as mkvToolNx and mkvMerger both works but you have to know what options to set. mkv2vob is a batch converter designed specifically for creating Sony player files.

Nice. I was looking for something like that a while back.
Didn't think of demuxing.. what do you mean by recombining them into smaller files?

I use Sony Vagas Pro 9.0 :thumb:
