Its just a bit of fun Snakey (aka Samsung Galaxy S Member 4  ;))..!! It was the same with the GTX260 and a whole bunch of other things on this forum too..

With the other ones, it was actually quite a good place to share info about the product and recommend things without having to clutter up the general forum..

Added after 2 minutes:

Hmm.. Apps I use the most/coolest:

Unified Remote
Angry Birds
Jewels
Barcode Scanner
Car Performance
Colournote
Google Sky Maps
Net Counter
RAC Traffic
Tesco Clubcard
Transdroid
Rainwatch

Oh - and of course, Android Lightsabre :D

Added after 2 minutes:

Oh, and Disk Usage, G Strings, Skype and Snesoid.

I've had mine for about a week and a half now and I love it soooo much.
Just a few questions for the club members if you get a chance - any answers might save me some heavy Googling:

1. What are the benefits of rooting? and can you link to a good guide to doing it?

2. Is there anyway to make the sound reproduction via headphones louder than it is in the default music app? - would anybody recommend a different player?

3.Could you list your top 5 Apps? (mine so far: Advanced App Killer, Google Sky Map, Google Translate, Alchemy and Realcalc).

Aaron
17-02-11, 21:30
I don't ever use a task killer unless something stops responding.. It can actually shorten your battery life, as the phone keeps having to re open apps. Android doesn't use ram in the same way as Windows, so it doesnt matter if its running at 99% full or something...

Apps I use/can be quite fun are (other than the ones you've listed):

Angry Birds
Barcode scanner
Astro File Browser
Colornote
Disk Usage
Jewels
Photobucket
SoundHound
SliceIt
Solo Lite
Talking Tom Cat
Tesco Clubcard
Tweetdeck
Unblock Me (Free)
Unified Remote
WordFeud

Shouldent impact performance at all as its not needed. If it does then there is something wrong with your phone.

Oh and the main reason i like having full root (S-OFF) is because i can have an Adblock <3

Indeed....

Also, sean - whats the difference between VLC remote and Unified remote? I'm guessing VLC remote is just for VLC player, whereas Unified does everything?

VLC remote has all the options for VLC, so you can change absolutly anything in VLC. You can also open files from the built in fine manager. I use the app daily and have never been let down. its awesome :knock:

Anyone have problems with their Desire restarting randomly and repeatedly out of the blue? Mines seems to get really hot and just restarts itself continuously unless i take the battery out and leave it for a while before starting it again. Its really driving me nuts as i need my phone a lot for work.

Funnily enough, mine has restarted a couple of times recently... Not very frequently - maybe only twice in the last 4-5 weeks, but its definitely done it randomly and by itself..

My Desire gets very hot when playing games for any length of time. It has restarted a few times too out of the blue. I'm still running 2.2 and haven't rooted as I wouldn't even know where to start and I'm happy with it as is for now.

i never noticed mine get worm until i stuck it in a gel case thingie and now i feel it more, idk if its been the cooler weather we have had or the case is trapping the heat but its never restarted itself.

its still on an old leedroid 2.2 rom.

Yes , But the simple fact is even S-On users can have Adblocker , as it just blocks the ad an leaves a Loading cuircle so i assume its some form of firewall blockers that they have used , im no expert but i know what happend when i installed the program and i didn't have adverts >_>

I think thats pretty much the same as if you start an ad supported app with no data connection. It just shows the loading icon then as well, but the gap for the ad is still there..

True but its unclickable which means you dont accidently go to some daft website, Which saves time

Just to let you guys know I sorted my Bluetooth issues by DLing the Widdicom BT stack..Installing over my Logitech stuff (which killed everything) and then reinstalling the Logitech Setpoint stuff.

Completely bss ackwards but that's what I've come to expect dealing with Logitech gear - 's great stuff but it doesn't play nice with the other kids in the playground.

Anyhoot now I have full Bluetooth functionality twixt phone and PC.

Oxygen is what I'm using ATM and its almost a stock android rom so you do lose all the sense stuff but that's not my gripe, its almost doubled my latency when I tether my phone which has pretty much made it impossible to game thru it now.

Leedroid is my gave tbh.

Off topic.

Anybody know what the fup is with 3 on this all you can eat data add on? Only I can't find it and they must have some thing in place.

I was the same, my last phone was a blackberry bold and I had a leather case. Didn't get one for my desire and it seems really robust, dropped it, had it in my pocket with keys etc. and so far it has remained scratch free. Top phones !

There isn't one.

"Unlike most places, we don't have a FUP"

Surely you can just log into My3 and have a look though.

Quick question have any of you got a rooted phone? if how did you do it?
Im looking at unrevoked.

msparsons

unrevoked is super easy to do and worked fine for me :D
once you start installing custom roms (if you plan to do so), make sure you do some backups - Titanium, NAND etc.
I would highly recommend rooting on the desire due to it's small internal storage!

HTC Sense is an absolute battery gobbler.

Me and my friend were using our phones a lot since he's got the Desire S and I've got the standard Desire. He's only just got his yesterday so I was showing him how to use it.

Come 1PM he's got 15% battery with HTC Sense.
I have 60% battery with standard ASOP Android.

Can i be in the club? had one for a while but only just noticed this thread!!!

im running my standard rom from 3 at the mo with htc sense on it and i can get 2 days battery life on it no probs (but not playing games ect as that kills the battery)

My mate has a flashed orange san fransisco and his battery life is awful, lucky if he can get a day out of it at times!!!!!

Do you use your phone ever?

Garndell
12-05-11, 21:19
I have a Desire, not currently using a custom ROM but did try one before Orange finally relented and released 2.2 for it. I do run Sense and the battery lasts all day for me, even with 2-3 hours of listening to music, playing a little game or two & with WiFi on.

It is branded but I don't mind, 1 year into a 18 month contract at £15 a month isn't bad.

What brightness do you run the screen at?

I find 40-50% saves a lot more battery than 100%.

Also, HTC Sense doesn't have great battery life.

I used to just about manage a day on HTC Sense.
I can now manage two without it.

DarkStrider1987

How exactly do you remove HTC Sense?

I already have the brightness at about 40% and I get about 5hrs of heavy use out of it, or 11hrs of medium use. Tried a different battery and still get the problem.

You used it with headphone jack? That's the only problem with it, and I was under the impression it was a gingerbread bug. Really hard to search for things like this you just get loads of people asking and not many answers. Will give oxygen another go :)

Without A2SD don't think I could really use my phone like I would like so will probably stick to custom roms. That being said HTC said they were cutting out some pre-installed apps for gingerbread so might be better than before, never know :)

I've found a great little way of saving battery.

It works on Gingerbread ASOP ROMs but I've not tried Sense ROMs.

Settings > Wireless & Networks > Wi-Fi settings

Click menu button on phone and click 'Advanced'.

Set 'Wi-Fi sleep policy' to Never.

This will mean your phone will keep a constant Wi-Fi session.

I find it's actually better since it means your phone has Wi-Fi as soon as you want it and it also means the phone uses less battery trying to find a Wi-Fi network.

It actually saves a lot of battery.

Bradmax57
07-08-11, 18:35
It does work, most custom Roms have it set to never by default

Just goes to show if you tweak a few settings you can get a decent lengh of time out of one of these phone.

dan rooting it opens up the phone so you can get it to run more types of software, both os and apps.

It can be complicated if you have a branded phone you would need a gold card that's a sd card hacked with an hex editor to flash the phone with an older 2.2 Rom that is not locked to rooting.
Then its just a case of s off and eng off both modify the HTC bootloader to allow clockwork mod and new better radios to be flashed.
Yes newer roms are a lot better I'm on a beta release of 2.3.5 with sense 3.0 this will never be released for our phones.
If you want help I've made a gold card for my phone and flashed ext4 recovery its simple if you follow exactly what the how to's tell you to do.

Blimey, I'm liking this.

MIUI-XJ with WiFi turned to always on.

Been using phone since 10AM this morning so it's done 12 hours and the battery is at 86%.

That's pretty good if you ask me.

Even under heavy usage all day it'll do 65%.

So much better than HTC Sense ROMs which after 6 hours are at like 24%.

MIUI seems to have issues with haptic feedback, it doesn't work on the keyboard.

You'll have to flash CM7, Oxygen 2.3 or an HTC Sense ROM for that sadly.
