Hi Folks!
As you lot are a mixed bunch I thought this would be a good place to ask some advise about a company name. I'm dabbling more and more with web design and now need to have a company name instead of just me. I have been racking my brains for quite a while now but everything just seems dull or typical.
So how do you go about creating such a name that will stand for what I want and shouldn't grow old and out of date?
Oh and it being a web design name I would also like it to have a free domain for me to buy and setup. :)
Please help.
Cheers,
Dan

Ha. I don't really want Murderer in the title... ;)
Also was preferring one word if possible but that might be asking to much!
Cheers so far.
MurdererDesigns sounds cool.
Your slogon could be "We kill other sites" ah?
What about "Zing web designs" I know its pant's lol.
What ideological values does the websites you design have?
Work from that to a name.

BlueBreadDesign.

OutOfDateDesign?! :P

I like my design to be very basic (harhar yes my skills are not mental but I feel keep it simple and get the point across more clearly) so I was trying to think of something round that...
My mates handle is usually AfroDuck and he is going to be taking photos for websites I design.... So! The thought now is AfroBreadDesigns.... (something like that)
Sound stupid or passable?
So the denotations of that is:
Simple
Clean
Easy
Fun
Smart
Fast
etc.
Using those, we can come up with things such as CleanWeb etc

Yeah I broke it down like that before (even had the Thesaurus on the go!) but still seemed a bit rubbish. Also good to bash some heads together to see what the 'public' think as they are a big player in what I aim to do I suppose.
Hmm, names are always hard, SmartAndFast.com ?
I shall be starting up a Video Business up son but the naming is so important, It's holding me back

Also, that rubber duck thing looks pretty cool.
You really need to decide what your target market is, tbh. You need to establish what sort of customers you are likely to be working for, and go from there.
To some extent that's going to depend on your skill sets: are you going to be making 'pretty' websites (in which case you're looking towards promotion and marketing, possibly small companies wanting an online 'poster' site) or are you going to be making 'functional' websites (shopping baskets, directories, that sort of thing) in which case you'll want to adopt a less trendy and more 'grown up' approach.
The name you choose should suit your approach. If you're trying to get 'corporate' customers then AfroBreadDesigns is probably only going to make your life harder, whereas if you are going for small, independent, trendy companies you can get away with a lot more.

Cheers Smifis! The Rubber Ducks is me Airsoft team. :) And its built around Wordpress.
@ andyn
Completely agree. I think I'm going with the latter i.e. smaller independent businesses and charities so that's why I think I can get away with a name like that. But I don't want it to be too stoopid.
something that has no real relation, like "orange box" - obviously not that, as its a game, but like that.
ArguteWebDesign...
Argute is on olde English word for Shrewd

I like your thinking... Would prefer old Scottish words. ;)
I think I am just going for AfroBread, so final thoughts on that? (And much appreciated input so far - cheers.)

The ones that spring to mind for Scottish, rather than the prose of your sassenach cousins then would be:
HaggisWeb (obvious, but had to say that one)
or what about
SleekitWeb...:xmas:

Pshaw, nothing wrong with a little casual racism. You're probably used to it by now anyways. :p

Indeed! And before you ask I am not ginger! ;)
So I'm guessing with no real complaints about the name it has been given the green light. Cheers folks.

Unfortunately, the lack of domain names nowadays means you are better off finding out of a domain name is available before you commit to a company name. I mean, you might set your heart on nerfdesign only to find that this domain and every variation is taken, so your website ends up at nerf-web-design.com.
Most people say to choose a company name that best represents the personality of your company. Personally I would find a short, catchy word (even if it's made up), check the domain name is available and commit to it.
How about something like 'Signium'?
'Signum' comes from the Latin root of "design", and I thought that 'Signium' sounded a lot like a chemical element, and that this could also be good branding, eg. "Signium was first discovered by the scientist ........, who was amazed when he discovered the almost magical property of the element; when it came into contact with a new company, a high quality web design would be created!".
The connotations of chemistry is that everything is controlled and attempted to be as clean and efficient as possible.

Not bad. Looks like both domains gone though.
