Hello,
Just wondered what you think of my upgrade. Any thing that you think needs to be changed?
Curretly:
AMD Athlon 2900+, MSI 7021, 1.5GB DDR400 RAM, 80GB HDD, DVD RW, 550W PSU, GeForce FX 5200, Thermalrock eclipse.
Upgrade:
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ SKT 939, Asus A8V-VM (Already purchased), 1.5GB DDR400 RAM (From old system), GeForce 8400GS 512MB, 80GB HDD (From old System), Case from old system, DVD burner from old system.
All in the upgrade will come in under £100.
Cheers.
Hmm, i wouldnt in a new build recomend a 939, or reccomend that u bought one, but considering this is a small upgrade then.
Thats about all you can do with the stuff there. I see no reason to change this.
its not future proof ie your couldnt upgrade the cpu sometime down the line without changing the motherbaord and then memory but thoose part will give you a significant performance boost :D

As you already have the board, I would look for an X2 processor, not to go dual core would be a mistake. With the 1.5Gb or ram you will need to drop the Command rate to 2T as most Athlon 64s will not run 4 sticks of ram at 1T.
I don't know how long the 8400GS is but I do know that the Eclipse is a little tight for space and you may have to move the HDD to allow for the graphics card to fit.

Cheers guys, btw, Its 2 sticks of ram. 1 1GB and 1 512MB Stick. The rclipse should take it no problem. I am only using 939 as I got a motherboard already for it and dont have any use for it, so thought why not utilize it. :)
Much appreciated guys =] I heard the 4000+ was better than the 3600+ x2 so I am going to leave Dual Core for now.
Thanks a lot guys once again!

What are you doing with the pc?
If gaming the 4000+ will be a little quicker but not a great deal, the 3800+ I run in my server runs at 2Ghz with 2x512Kb L2 Cache the 4000+ runs at 2.4Ghz and has 1Mb L2 Cache.
If your multi tasking in any way, then the dual core will be better. any movie work, DVD encoding/ripping, 3d design work etc.
If you are planning HD Decoding then I would go dual core.
