hey, i have just bought a WD Raptor and am wondering whats the best way to set it up along with my existing HD.

Not upto speed with the Sata setup stuff

I currently have a 500GB Sata 2 drive wich is set on Silicon what ever it's called and an IDE 300GB which i will not be using any more

So when I install the raptor what the best way to do it as this will be my OS drive.

All this talk about raid arrays and stripe etc is confusing me...

thanx for any feedback in advance

If you are planning to use the Raptor in any sort of raid configuration, you will need at least 2 identical drives.. ie, 2 of the same model of raptor drive, if thats what you want to use.

However, if you are just wanting to use the Raptor as your OS drive, then it should just be a case of plugging it in and installing your OS on it. If it were me, I would probably unplug the other drives when installing an OS, just to be on the safe side.. But then thats just me! :)

I will be running XP. was toying with Vista but I doubt it. Can't be bothered with extra hastle of patching game etc........soon tho.

Yeh the main thing was the Raid, i was not sure wether it was better than silicon drivers. + the fact i don't have identical drives so i don't have to bother with it.

So again thanx for info and heres to another XP install tomorrow night...
Hope i notice a big difference with the Raptor drive.

Bye the way is there different types of Silicon drivers. Am sure theres more than one type on the Asus CD ??????? i can't remember what i have running @ the moment ?? which ones should be used ??

Cheers

HD installed and all is well. One thing slightly off topic. I bought some Akasa Blue UV Sata cab;es along with my Raptor order, just to tidy things up abit, there is no UV light from them, at all ???

Don't you need a UV light in there to "react" with the cable?
