I have recently been spring cleaning a couple of family PCs and started using the microsoft Fixit utilities for performance.

Has anyone got any pros/cons of using this
Or can recommend anything else that works sensible?

Try to think about the subject matter and match it to the relevant forum.

Personally I would rather solve issues myself. I can't find any use for it.

New to forums and just getting up to speed with the various protocols and policies. I'm sure I'll make mistakes along the way.

Me, I prefer to avoid issues brewing with a bit of proactive checking about and building on the knowledge of others where I can.

No software can beat common and web sense. Don't click things you are worried about and be aware of the latest threats. Whenever you make a change to yor PC be prepared for a total failure of it and be aware of trouble shooting steps you can take. Generally computers and faults are fairly logical and usually quite easy to diagnose, at least for me.

I believe I posted about this very software a few months back, possible usful a new user, using XP. Windows 7 and Vista has all those features built in.

Our own good common sense is a good starter. However I have 4 others using our home PCs who are 12, 17, 45 and 75. I am the IT support character available 7/24/365 and they do all sorts of things that end up with a call/email while I'm at work

In the spirit of good IT support my response is usually , well it worked yesterday what have you done...

The Answer is of course "nothing"...
