I need to update the Mobo BIOS so that it will correctly identify the CPU. I have the latest BIOS image on disk and have a variety of boot disks that give a basic OS. However I cannot access the 'C' drive once the computer has finished its boot up sequence. The problem is that the drive is SATA and needs the appropriate drivers. I could run the Flash programme from the floppy, but the update instructions from the MSI website specifically says NOT to do this. So I need a boot disk that loads SATA drivers. I've looked on the net but so far have drawn a blank.

Could anyone point me in the direction of an ISO file or similar for a boot disk that will give me access to the SATA drive, (Via chipset, VT8237R) or explain how I can make my own. All instructions I've found so far have been a bit vague on this subject.

Mobo is MSI K9MM-V (MS-7312 with BIOS V1.5) Version 1.6 is needed.
CPU is AMD Athlon 64 LE-1600 2.2Ghz

Thanks

Go here and install "live update" http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=utility&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1104 you should be able to update your bios from windows using that.

I absolutely take no responsibility if it goes belly up though (i HATE updating bioses)

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I've tried this utility as is comes on the mobo CD, and I downloaded and installed the version on the web page you indicated. The version on the web is not the latest version and when you run it, it asks you to uninstall it and replace it with the latest version

Tried this and both versions crash during the check for updated MSI utilities. Both versions also insist that I am running the latest BIOS version i.e. 1.5, when version 1.6 is available on the MSI web site.

All in all the MSI utilities and web site appear to be a bit of a shambles. The Gigabyte board that I had before, and is years old, had much better facilities for checking and updating the BIOS from within windows, so it can't be that hard to have a workable update programme.

Thanks for the advice.
