The Americans have made their own version....
http://www.history.com/shows/top-gear
(available thought iTunes)
I have seen the first epsiode and I must admit its not too bad ;)
did they try to copy the format exactly or tailor it a little more to their own style?
since when do Americans know anything about cars?

It's format is similar, the cinematography is very similar.
The three presenters to me are more like the Fifth gear team, if that makes sense?
There is still the "Stig" and they have a "Big Star in a Small Car" rather than the UK version
They did a Dodge Viper up agaisnt a Cobra Helecoptor
did they try to copy the format exactly or tailor it a little more to their own style?
Bit of both - they have the Stig, they have star in a reasonably price car (called Big Star - Small Car), they have the power laps board, there is 3 of them.
They didnt do the news bit (which is often the best bit) and they dont seem to have a leader (ie Clarkson).
I honestly didnt find it as good as ours - the humour just wasnt there.

We'll see if it gets thoroughly predictable like our one...
Was just thinking when is Top Gear in the UK coming back on? Also, the UK Top Gear no longer has The Stig as he's moved onto fifth gear :S.

BBC holds the rights to 'The Stig', they'll just get a replacement Stig.
That guy can't just go to Channel 5 in a Stig outfit.
I wish they wouldn't get a new Stig, the UK show needs a bit of a shake up and something to freshen up the formula. At this point it often feels like they're just going through the motions, and while once the banter between presenters felt natural it now is too scripted, too often.
Might have to have watch of the US version at some point.

Yeah, James is always lost, Richard being short and teeth whitening jokes etc.
I think they should bring in the bird from the Nurbergring who showed Clarkson how to drive properly.
Pretty sure her name was Sabrine or Sabrina and she was fairly tasty too if memory serves.
there's also an Australian version.
it isn't the same without Clarkson, Hammond and May.

Sabine Schmitz, she used to be a professional racer.
She's tasty compared to Clarkson, May and Hammond I guess....

LOL you're at least the third person to say that on forums i frequent..
it must be bad
I'm sure I saw the Aussie version, don't remember much about it other than not caring if it got another series or regular UK airing.
No. No it's not ok. Only the UK version is acceptable.
UK version is becoming only acceptable. It's getting worse and shorter every year.... in a way that's why fifth gear is back..... but atm I still prefer top gear
i liked the aussie one but im not keen on the new guys doing it now, ep 1 this series was good with the brits vs the aussies but after that :/
ben collins has gone to 5th gear but he wasnt the only stig, 5th gear had the 1st stig (some unknown rally driver) a while back and the top gear stunt man too, they are all in it together as a few of the guys behind the scenes do both, 5th gear is what they did when there was no topgear.
i am going to have to keep my eyes open for the us version now :D
the oz versus uk one was funny
I went to MPH show a few weeks ago, Saw the NEW stig and they said there is a couple of christmas specials to show before the new series next year.
Reason no series this year is James May has been doing a new program and also Hammond.

Hahaha the book bit!
New Stig is Kimi..
When is the new UK series of Top Gear due to air?
None this year as far as I know, due to Hammond and May doing other shows. But I think someone mentioned on here that there might be a couple of christmas specials....
There is a little infor about the Christams special on their website :) they're off to Bethlehem: http://transmission.blogs.topgear.com/2010/12/03/top-gear-over-christmas-more-details/

I'm getting hyped for the Xmas Special!
I hope that since we're having to wait longer than we have before, that they will give is more than 6 episodes for the new season. 9 would be a treat, 12 would be fantastic! Sadly though I can't see it being anything other than the typical 6 eps... it's just not enough :-(

How many times will May get lost?
How many short jokes will we hear about Hammond?
How many times will Clarkson break something by being too aggressive?
How many times will we hear about May boring people with technical detail?
How many times will we see May get a slow car knowing full well there will be a drag race/timed lap?
etc
etc
Cue the CRIB sheet jokes.
Can you follow that star in a reasonably........?

According to Clarkson, they may not use a Stig in the new series
That would be a shame, especially after they did the whole little movie thing on how they breed new stigs!
I reckon its just a coverup :D

Same.
Although it could do with a freshen up, so wouldn't be too averse to the idea of The Stig being scrapped along with scripts with James May getting lost.
