£300 might be hard to work around beacause a monitor will take a chunk of that that . It would be easier if your could state what your would be using the PC for. Example for gaming .surfing etc

The budget is very tight but i'll see what i can do

AMD

Motherboard - 29980 - £44.94
CPU - 30159 - £71.62
RAM - 26802 - £29.32
HDD - 24013 - £31.08
DVD-RW - 29724 £15.92
PSU - 29090 - £41.07
Case - 16357 - £37.54
Graphics Card - 25243 - £41.44

Total : £257.99

Intel would be better for your money though -

Motherboard - 28610 - £45.77
CPU - 27971 - £105.69
RAM - 26802 - £29.32
HDD - 24013 - £31.08
DVD-RW - 29724 £15.92
PSU - 29090 - £41.07
Case - 16357 - £37.54
Grapics Card - 25243 - £41.44

Total : £292.89

The Intel build is more expensive but will give you better performance

I have a similar AMD board and the onboard is very basic really it is. Plus you have you allocate system memory there for losing some of your speed potenitally. The Intel/ATI setup would dominate the AMD in everyway

peters intel setup is the way to go but i would swap the cpu for a cheaper one and spend the cash on a better gpu as the 1650 is pants.

cpu (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/CPUs+%2F+Processors/Intel/Core+2+Duo/Intel+Pentium+Dual+Core+E2180+2.0GHz+%28Retail+775 %29+?productId=29175)

gpu (http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/PCI-E/ATI+Radeon+3000+Series/ATI+Radeon+HD+3850+512MB+PCI-E2.0+?productId=29977)

overclock the cpu to around 3ghz and you will not notice that is not the 6550 and this gpu gives lots of performance for the price.

Amen! this is defintely the way to go. I'd even consider a e2160 or e2140 and a slightly higher GPU still.

With your edits Marsey it totals £346.05

No idea if he wants to pay that much, if not my Intel system is best for price

thats true, given that we dont know what its use will be for its hard to pick a good set up other than picking what you would want for it.

might want a surf/office machine and a single core and gf 8400 would do that
.
