just bought one of the above but i would like to use windows xp instead of the xandros that comes installed. Basically i was wondering
1. if any one has done or intend on doing the same with thiers.
2. or could i just plug an old laptop hard drive (using an external caddy) into one of the usb ports and get it to run from there?
any help/ advice greatly appreciated!

thanks, don't suppose there is an easier way??? lol
Get windows on a pen drive, then boot of pendrive using windows 'performance' and it will install a small install quick. Performance is a version that has been stripped of bloat and will run fast.
Hey, i've done it, mines on a 4g one tho. You need a USB cd drive and a copy of nlite and windows. Follow this guide to reduce windows down to a nice small size. Pay attention to a few things though, at one point it tells you to remove 16bit APPLICATION support. DO NOT REMOVE THIS.

then use this guide to install XP

I also recommend buying a SD card for it too for files etc. And some more memory from here.

I have mine running nicely, boots up in 20 seconds. The actual processor runs at 630Mhz not 900 as Asus have had to declock them due to a problem with the BIOS, but they are working on that. It's still fast enough.
When you have installed XP you should also get the latest Intel chipset drivers.
You can get the latest Asus drivers from

If you bought it from the store are you the guy who requested the viewing of one? I just remembered i had mine in my car at the time, you could have seen it lol.
