View Full Version : Portrait Session...
Hi folks, just finished off post-processing some pics I took at the beginning of the month at a Portrait Session ...
Many thanks to Sharne, Naomi, Jenna and Leigh for modelling ... here's some of the results (the full results can be seen at http://experimentalshowcasephotos.fotopic.net/)

Looks good, you might want to play about with the contrast a tad more, you can get some good results by doing so.

Any particular shot there, or just "in general" ... ?
In general, particularly the last one, I'll post something up in a min.

Oooooh - you're right there ... of course it depends on the look you're going for, but as natural as possible imho :)

Is this more to Smiffi's liking?
the second one looks too artificial imho...
Agreed, I much prefer the first picture. Softer and more natural to my (completely unqualified and amateur) eyes.
I also prefer te first one.. Not that the 2nd one is bad, but it does look like its been photoshopped and un natural.. It also looks a lot colder as a photo, where as the first looks far warmer..
Yeah, it was very rushed, but i was trying to give an example of contrast.

Is this any better?

aaaannnyywwaaaayyyyyy....
Some good photos. I like the first one, maybe she needs to be fractionally further to the right to get the thirds rule going. The third one looks a touch overexposed to me/slightly too bright, though I guess the background colours make it challenging to judge and it's probably just my personal preference. I like the colours in the last one, though I think I'd slightly raise the brightness as opposed to the contrast myself. Were you using one of those ring flashes which goes around the entire lens, or was it a light behind a brolly job?
On the whole though, I'm impressed (though, like Andy, I'm a complete n00b amateur). Some nice looking models ;) What camera were you using too?

I still like the original better, I'm afraid. Perhaps your versions would be more successful as 'glamour' shots, but then I never really had much time for those anyway.
Your versions all seem to me (as a total non-expert) to just make her look pale and washed-out, and as though she's lying on a dead polyester polar-bear - just less 'natural'.
The version in the OP seems to me to have 'ambiance'.

Camera details are Sony Alpha 350 with various Sigma lenses (50mm fixed, and 75-300mm)
Using Bowens studio lights (can't remember part numbers)

Ha ha - that kind of vindicates my editing style - I admit I did do a bit of "smoothing" on this photo, and did a slight amount of "tanning" -but apart from that - pretty much as shot.
