May sound like a dumb question but does anyone know if this includes a virus checker?

AVG has done a bunk from my system, yes it has GONE, all by its self i didn't uninstal it so i am getting something else i can trust, proper paid for software etc.

Not considering MS AV?

Read that as real time antimalware type stuff not necessarily antvirus persay?

Er no, never considered microsoft av tbh Aaron, never heard of it?? So i assume its probably not that well thought of???

Mse is fine and free, it makes you wonder what they get from it.

MSE is a great free choice mate and it seems to be updating just as much as the paid for AV programs. If you must go for a paid for AV id recommend the new norton as it is probably the best around at present and is much improved over its previous versions. Its getting great reviews all-round.

I mean specifically the last line where it says about scheduling scans, you must be ablt to run scan to schedule it, well thats my logic anyway :D

Automatic scheduled scans and updates
Although saying that, MSE seems to be a good winner atm, so like what the others are suggesting, maybe give that a try first

I'd definitely try out MS antivirus before shelling out for a paid one.... :)

Had a few issues with norton in the past refusing to update, and like i said not heard anything about ms av till just now??

Ordered the 3 licence kaspersky internet security from Aria, for some reason its cheaper than the single user licence??

Having had "free" av software disappear from my pc god only knows when i have gone off it tbh Aaron, if i pay for something and it decides to uninstall its self at least i can shout at someone ;)

NO!

I've got the new Norton and it sucks. I thought it would be better than the previous versions but no, it's still the same, old, crappy software. It constantly scans my HDD even though I've turned the feature off. It slows down your system to the point where you can't use it as it's just thrashing the HDD.

Stick to Kaspersky. I have 300 days left on my Norton subscription and I am purchasing Kaspersky as soon as I can get my hands on it. Never, ever again!

I've used it on my most recent PC as well 2 laptops in the past few months and it runs flawlessly and causes minimal effect on the systems i've put it on. Its much better than the previous versions of Norton. I've used Norton, Nod32, Bitdefender, MSE, amongst others in recent years and the only one of those listed that caused me problems was bitdefender as it slowed my PC down dramatically. The rest were excellent IMO. I suppose it differs from one machine to the next but i think its very good and it would appear most of the review sites agree with me. Either way, all the software suggested thus far are good, even Kaspersky.

I suggest you download and install Microsoft's Security Essentials. (http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/) This is completely free and you have free updates for life. A very good peice of AV software, no bloat and unobtrusive, just how AV should really be.

Also Malwarebytes Antimalware (http://forums.aria.co.uk/www.malwarebytes.org) is a great and free to use "Nasty" malware remover. Will get rid of most bad infections. I also recommend Spybot Search & Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html) which will remove more tracking cookies and such.

When removing nasty ingrained viruses for customers, I often use ESET online scanner. (http://www.eset.com/online-scanner) When no av is installed or to be trusted.

I walked past the new Norton in our warehouse today.

I saw what they named it.

I loled.

If you are like me and bank with Barclays, you get 3 Kaspersky licenses, including all updates free....well worth it imo

THIS!

Kaspersky is the best you can buy imo.

Norton is the worst. that not imo, its FACT!

There are decent free ones but as i am with Barclays I am happy to get Kaspersky for free although I would probably just pay for it anyway.
Give the 2 others licenses to family or friends, they might give you some money to split the cost. Also buying an older Kaspersky works well too as it is cheaper and they update it to the new one anyway.

If your going to pay good money for this type of software then +1 vote for Kaspersky. I use to use it and it did just what it said on the tin and was easy to use/setup and seem much better than resource hungry Norton. (Only changed because my Antivirus/firewall is now provided by my broadband supplier).

Mind you if you want to save some dosh then I'd go for Microsoft's Security Essentials, I've installed this on my dads PC and sisters laptop and they both are very happy with it.

when you go through to your barclays online banking, you get an option to register for a free Kaspersky code, download the software and activate. I've been using it for over 12 months and just upgraded my licenses at home to get another free 12 months...awesome freebie imho. See weblink below for details

got rid of mse as it let something through when the missus was on the pc the other day. so made a return to nod32 to see what it's like now - was really good last time, just they hiked the price to a level i wasn't prepared to go to.

i use kaspersky and recommend it.. better than mcrapfee and norton and the full AVG, not tried the mse so cant say but kaspersky doesnt exactly break the bank at £17 and they have great support..

KIS = EXACTLY the same as KAV.

I downloaded both to see, and they are EXACTLY the same program, bar IS has some ghey *** toolbar and a different name.

Are you sure that the features were all actually enabled in KAV? I'm pretty sure it doesn't include the firewall, HIPS, virtual keyboard and a few other additional bits and pieces included in KIS. It's difficult to see why they would include an identical feature set in both...

Back when I paid for AV Kaspersky was my AV/FW of choice, Norton is horrific and should be avoided. It might give you protection but you won't be able to use your computer with anything resembling speed.

First off I would be looking at WHY AVG uninstalled itself.... I know there are a few nasty trojans and malware doing the rounds that disable Anitvirus software ..if I were you I would grab malwarebytes as suggested earlier and give your PC a damn good going over..and also try one of the online virus checkers to see what they throw up !!

the only problem ive found with kaspersky is that tyhe firefox add on slows firefox down loads and is worth uninstalling.. runs much smoother without it.
