View Full Version : Etheral NSIS Error
Well I downloaded a packet sniffer (for school) called Etheral as recommended by my teacher but whenever I try to install it I get the "NSIS Error" making the program think it is corrupt or something. I've got a fresh install of windows so windows installer can't be a problem (didn't work on my old install either) also I've redownloaded the same file from their website a few times and I always get this error still.
Also I tried it with cmd and the command /NCRC and it just comes up as corrupt again. So what can I do to fix this?
Ok nobody knows, mods delete this pl0x :D.
it can stay, maybe someone will be able to help someone else in the future :)
NSIS Error on Google (http://www.google.co.uk/#hl=en&source=hp&biw=1008&bih=652&q=ethereal+nsis+error&aq=0&aqi=g1&aql=&oq=ethereal+nsis&gs_rfai=&pbx=1&fp=f1f3f29e80c842e4) :)
Ok, already tried google and it failed me :(. People seem to come to the conclusion it's the winodws installer but I've just freshly installed Windows 7, never worked on my old OS or my new one.
Can hint at system problems
Faulty ram / corrupt system files
Normal solution is to make sure system is not over-clocked
clear browser cache and temp directories
If more than one ram module try each in turn to rule out ram.
doing a (( sfc /scannow )) at elevated command prompt to fix any essential system files.
Thanks for the post PMM,
Thing is this is a prebuilt computer by Dell, I've never really upgraded any parts on it or touched things like the RAM, only things I've moved about/cleaned are the HDD and Graphics Card which was quite a while ago and it's been running like normal. I don't think it's a hardware issue as that's something that I haven't really messed around with on this rig.
99% of the time if you get a nsis corrupt it is because it is corrupt its failing the crc check either by the fact its a duff download / poorly hacked / or machine issues.
People have run utils to clarify no memory issues and getting an ok result but solved the issue by replacing the memory when installing a legit version.
I know it can sound illogical
My only other suggestion is.... http://www.wireshark.org/download.html
Ye I went for wireshark in the end, but anyway can you do me a favour and try and see if etheral installs for you? So I can know whether it's just me or everyone.
The one from the ethereal site does fails for me so looks corrupt on there server.
installs ok from here.. http://ethereal.brothersoft.com/
Oh ok, I guess it was just a badly made version by the devs, or a bad upload to the servers. Thanks, I'll try it out.
