I am possibly going to be ordering a HP G62 i3 laptop today and was wondering if HP laptops are well built and reliable. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. :thumb:

I have a HP as my work laptop, seem pretty sturdy. It's been going for over 2 years now with no faults reported at all. Keyboard still working fine, some the cheaper brands the keyboards or touchpads develop faults after about 6 months or so. Not cheap, but I'd give them a recommendation.

The experience I have had with HP laptops ..is they are usually built to last....but always seem to be lower spec that equivilent other makes..

Well, I have found one with an i3 330M, 250GB HDD, 2GB DDR3 and win7 HP for £325, refurb and that's the cheapest i3 laptop i can find!

Is it refurbed by HP? If so, that sounds good to me ...

It's either refurbed by HP, unused return or ex stock. Either way it is meant to be in a new condition with a 12 month warranty, so I think I will be ordering it later today :weeee

If you are looking for a laptop, why not consider Aria's bunch of open box Sony machines?

I have an old Vaio. The build quality is superb. They are just too expensive. But at open box prices, they come at realistic costs.

I had one with work and it is was a good solid unit, as I don't know the cost of it I can't compare to others specs around at the time but overall I was very happy with it

The G62s aren't bad at all. I just set up 2 for a client last week.
The only thing that I didn't like about them was the keyboards; the function buttons are to the left of the shift/caps/tab keys, and I kept on hitting them rather than the shift key.
Take a look here (http://i33.tinypic.com/nqkxd.jpg) to see what I mean.

The missis bought an HP laptop a couple of months ago and it's really good. It's just a case of shopping around, we weren't specifically looking at HP but it was on an offer and was better than anything else around at the time.

In my opinion though, you will get far better value for money scrapping the i3 idea and getting a slightly older more powerful chip - I'll wait for someone to disagree although a customer service rep disagreed with me which means I am probably right

Thanks for all the feedback guys! Just gonna have a look at the open box range as I know they are cheap ande good as I got a dell 10v for £200 about 3 weeks ago and the spec was wrong, but in a good way, turned out it had bluetooth and 320GB HDD! And as for the keyboard I can see what you mean, it would take some getting use to, plus rep to all :D

I was so tempted to write they make a nice sauce. I am so glad I didn't

Will let you know how the HP Essentials laptop from here due tomorrow is. Most of our work laptops are HP and Dell. Personally I think the HP are better built as we have had less failures, but that is only a sample of about 6 of each in the past 4-5 years.

Just been ordered now £325, cheapest i3 laptop available and with it being the G62 it also kinda looks like a MacBook pro which I'm happy about as most windows laptops are ugly! And yes they do make good sauce haha +1 for that! :P

Got my laptop today, it's ok, couple of marks on the lid but expected as refurb. But a bargain at £325!

Meh, they all make laptops, it's the same thing really. you should really just look at the specs. Only difference with companies is the case design and the added mutlimedia buttons, plus some extra OEM software features in your OS. I personally don't take too much note of the company as specs come first for me, if I find something at a good deal then I buy it.

Like my Acer 6530G, 4GB DDR2 ram, ATi 4570 512mb dedicated, 16 inch screen, blu ray, webcam and SD card slot.

Only £389.97

Some have much higher failure rates than others, Acer are top of there game at the moment though :)

But then warranty comes in, also I didn't really think Acer were that good. Anyway if they do break down I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to sort out and if it is just take it back to the tech guys or soemthing.

Well I hope mine doesn't break....

Mine hasn't yet (been about 6 months), but on that topic I just remember what you need to keep in mind is overheating, if you have a slightly good speced laptop make sure you defiantly always give it's fan's good airflow as they usually overheat quite quickly :(.

Well it has a year warranty but it's refurb. I imagine all should be ok. When I get it, it was used, returned, repaired and then sold to me. I could tell as there was a small mark on the palm rest and a couple of small ones on the lid. I was fairly happy although a bit annoyed at the scratches, but then, I could've possibly got a much worse one with loads of scratches!

Only had a 1 year warranty on my wifes hp notebook, think its standard.

In a word, yes. I've always found all HP products to be good ol' workhorses. Their desktops on the other hand...

1 year warranty is pretty much standard for everything. Anyway any laptop maker should be fine in my eyes. HP are great to be honest, just some customers haven't had good experiences with them just like every other laptop maker has some people who don't have good experiences with them.

You must be very lucky. The service we receive is usually pretty slow twined with their unaudiable customer reps. They ship the parts to the moon and back and sometimes don't even repair the faults or replace parts without testing so we then receive returned repairs with yet another fault!

Amount of HP PCs and Laptops we receive in stock lately had a few come out of the box with hardware faults or develop faults very soon (such as OS corruption when the item is just a display model!) and the majority of HPs that return to us few months after purchase with HDD issues etc. is staggering, even as a big manufacturer it's not good.

I would reccommend Acer for all-around great laptops within superb price range, stylish and elegant models and I've hardly received any faults back from customers. Some of the HP models do look pretty naff and very bulky.

In my experience, Acer laptops are flimsy and break easily; it's as if they used the thinnest plastic they could find. The keyboards are pants.

By comparison, HP laptops appear to be built in shipyards, as every one I've had has been sturdy, stable and had a truly excellent keyboard. I bought one for the Mrs recently and the quality of the keyboard and plastics still impress me.

I've been repairing laptops for a while now and can honestly say that I see more HP and Compaq laptops coming in for repair than any other make of laptop. The simple fact is that they are made cheaply (Who would put both the BGA and CPU on the same heatsink shim? And HP have the nerve to say its not a design flaw! LOL) and their after sales support is non existant. The DV and G, CQ series of laptops are a complete joke.

From a maintenance point of view I would perosnally steer clear of HP and Compaq.

Just my 2p's worth.
