So i just learnt that FaceBook are going to be giving a @facebook.com email address.

Are they going to far with the hole "Internet" thing?

If they think that they have a market for building a business competing against already well built up email providers then let them be.

Obviously with the massive amount of facebook users they must believe that they could market it as an all in one package. Social twitter like posts along with a full email system.

Smart plan in my opinion but im fine with my googlemail <3

now quit your whining young whippershnapper and start to think on things from business perspectives and not a consumer. Facebook will always look at finding ways to cut costs and increase revenue.

Why 2 far and not too far?

You've got a keyboard in your hands, not a phone - surely two characters don't make that much of a difference.

I know it seems pointless but I loose all respect when people shorten words when it's unnecessary. I had a right go at my other sister, she kept shortening the words making it impossible to read, and worse still the final character count was longer by shortening it so it was completely stupid.

/rant.

Ontopic: I think it's a good idea, keeping facebook and email in one place would be quite good for social people, thankfully I have no friends so I'll stick with the Aria PC forums and googlemail.

I can't see this catching on except for new, perhaps younger members of the site. It would have to provide something special that the others don't in order to attract those who already have Gmail/Hotmail/Yahoo.

they ought to spend some more money on their security first. i stopped using it a long time ago because when i last checked my account had been used all over england by people i have no idea about. the number of scam emails i've had sent by people through facebook is ridiculous and i bet thats how i got hacked aswell.
its just a breeding ground for viruses and all types of malware as all the kids on facebook spread the viruses around without even knowing it.
sorry just abit wound up because i got hacked not so long since lol:D

another email account to keep track of..... if they don't provide IMAP access, i won't be using them. already too much effort when there's an email i wanted to save into online folder with my hotmail account.

in fact, probably won't be using it at all. who uses Facebook here anyway? it's a waste of web traffic looking at what all other people have done, "meh" is the best response i could give if im bothered to reply.

SMS/phone call for friends, Email for other friends is all i'll ever need.

facebook is just a fad like most social networking things were a fad.

the future of social networking imo is in the combination of windows/xbox live/steam/fb
