Well whenever I tried to login into Windows Live Messenger I get the error message "Windows Live Communications Platform Has Stopped Working + Steam Problem", no matter who's account I try it gave me that error. So I decided to uninstall Windows Live Messenger and reinstall a newer version and the uninstall was successful but now it's not letting me reinstall it :s. Every time I try the installer reaches about 95% and then gives me the error message "Windows Essentials was unable to install, please try again". I can still access my e-mail address from hotmail and eBuddy but why won't messenger work?

Also, I just logged into a very old steam account which I created but never used and I decided I was going to buy Call of Duty Black Ops on it, which I just did but the steam account is linked with the e-mail address that I use and steam is not sending me e-mails from it. Every time I try changing my password or changing the e-mail address I use with this steam account, steam tells me they have sent a verification code to my e-mail address which I need to use to change my details but the thing is they never did :s, also what's really worrying me is when I bought black ops they never sent me a confirmation e-mail although black ops is downloading right now from them if I ever get hacked I won't have the information to prove I bought it. Also I really want to change my password and e-mail address since the passwords on it were the same passwords that were hacked a while ago from me I don't want it to be this easy for them to take my account again :s.

Sorry I rush typed this, ask me for clarification I still need to e-mail steam about this problem and I still need to know if you guys know anything about the Messenger problem, I possibly think the two problems may be linked?

Try removing the windows messenger folder in Program files, install ccleaner and run the reguistry cleaner and fix all issues, and repeat until it can't find any more issues, then try installing again.

Apart from that I'm not sure.

best thing to do is open a support ticket on steam and explain to them what you said here. They should sort it out. As for msn, a new 2011 version was released not so long ago, have you tried installing that?

Ye I said I was going to do that :p, I've now posted the steam support ticket. Also it was the 2011 version of Windows live essentials that is not working.

@Lorem_Ipsum
Going to try that now, thanks for your post.

Also it was the 2011 version of Windows live essentials that is not working.

You wouldn't happening to be running 64bit?

I know there is a major compatibility issue... Works for most people but all my mates and me have right problems.

Annoyingly , The fix is to let it run in the side bar for a few days. It the weirdly fixes itself.

As for the Steam Emails, you checked your SPAM folder? Might get sent to there.

Also, buy Black Ops elsewhere, its cheaper £39.99 on Steam.

Well thanks for the response, basically steam replied today and they done everything for me so most of it's sorted and I also finally got my black ops receipt which was received after a delay.

As for Windows Live Messenger, well I finally managed to install it perfectly BUT it now says it was unable to start because of the 'missing' file called 'wldlog.dll' so now I'm just going to stop bothering since I think it's my OS (Vista Home 32bit), it always comes up with weird bugs like when the screen saver turns on it never turns off, making me have to restart the whole computer to get the screen back on :s.

Going to upgrade to Windows 7 x64 Ultimate :). Anyway first I want Black Ops to finish downloading from steam so I can test it out and then I've got to remove it again to reinstall my OS (would it work if I just copyed + pasted the steam folder from Vista Home 32bit to Windows 7 x64 Ultimate? ).

Btw @FlasH I know it's cheaper and Game and Gamestation, but I couldn't be bothered waiting for my sister to go instore to buy it for me since I'm only 16 lol, I also realised I could of saved £5 if I downloaded it from Game :(, oh well.

you can download the dll file on its own... use one of these sites: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=dll%20files&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&source=hp&channel=np
